I wondered the same thing. Also, the game seems to behave slightly differently from regular Minesweeper (i.e. watch the game play closely - its almost like the game is giving the player clues before he commits to clicking on a square).

Well, he's using the two-button-click which my father doesn't use...he's played it for like the last 10-15 years and to this day he probably plays it at least a few times every day. It's more reflex now than actual thinking...it's pretty scary watching him play.

At least if you're a DBA for GM/EDS for a decade, you leave with one lifelong skill

I hate expert mode on Minesweeper, because it always seems to boil down to a guess in the corner somewhere, with no thinking involved. Minesweeper is very easy once you learn how to look at it, which makes expert mode very simple, but the game turns into luck rather than skill.

...and 85 seconds is fast enough to make me queezy. My best effort (sans that two-button click thing) is 118 seconds.

Can someone explain minesweeper? I can do it so slowly after recognizing patterns but I've never actually understood it.

The double click method clears squares assuming you have flagged the mines correctly. So, if you flag a mine by a 1, then you click both mouse buttons on the one, assuming you marked the bomb correctly, it will clear the rest of the squares.

It will clear the squares either way but if you are wrong you lose.

The numbers represent how many mines the square is by.

my fastest was 6 seconds....but it was luck. i got a bunch of records between 6 and like 20 seconds, but i really dont fully understand the game.....it was somewhat luck. it takes me about 100 tries just to beat the damn game...much less beat it in 6 seconds.

If you properly mark enough flags around a numbered square, you can "clear" around it.

As an example, the number 3 in a square means there are 3 bombs somewhere within the 9 squares immediately adjacent to it. If you mark 3 of those squares as bombs, you can click on the 3-square with both mouse buttons and it will automatically click on all the *other* squares for you, clearing them. If you've properly marked the bombs, you're good. If you haven't properly marked the bombs, it's just like clicking on a bomb. You lose.

The numbers in the revealed squares refer to the number of mines that square is touching. By looking at multiple revealed squares, you can logically figure out if an unknown square contains a mine or not.

so many times you're left with a 50/50 shot, that's why it never held my interest.

The vast majority of the game is not blind luck, but it is involved sometimes.
