I got into a minor accident last night, got all the info from the other driver that hit me but didn't wait for the police. My car has about 4-5 minor scratches to the right rear bumper. What do you guys think will happen?

A) everything will be fine and that person will take responsibility

B) one big headache that will last for months

If you are saying he called the police and you did not wait that is pretty bad.

I would always call the police in these situations not because you are looking for them to ticket or determine fault (most will not), but rather have an impartial witness.

Worst case is this guy waits for you to leave and then calls the police himself saying you were following him, making threats then hit him and fled.

Quoted for when you get to see what people actually try to pull off with their insurance.

You didn't wait for the cops? You didn't make the call? No witness statements? You, sir, are about to get fucked.

If you got rear-ended, the other guy is pretty much at fault. If you had a cell phone with a camera, you should have taken pics.

Sounds like everything will be fine and the other guy will have to pay for a new paint job for your rear bumper.

Isn't leaving the scene of an accident a crime. That was a bad move. Odds are the guy that remained will not get ticketed, and you'll have no recourse.

The other guy has insurance? Notify your insurance company and let them do the work. You normally front the deductible and the other insurance company reimburses you for the repair. Alternatively you can submit the damage quote, take the money, and not fix the car.

most of these end within 2 weeks based on my experience.

first of all, dont have your insurance company take care of it. No need to have your insurance company get involved if it is not your fault.

contact their insurance company. file a claim, and tell the what happenend. if they accept responsiblity, they will get your car fixed. If not, then you call your insurance company, have them fix your car, and your insurance company will go after them.

since the damage is minor, you dont need to call your insurance company just yet.

So what happened? He rear-ended you or something?

He'll probably sit, wait and hope you don't want to deal with the trouble for a few minor scratches.

If the other guy is at fault, you have your insurance company go after his insurance company. You won't have to deal with any deductible as long as it's his fault.

that's not necessarly true. If you go through your own insurance company, you have to pay your deductible. that's part of the contract that you signed. You state that you will agree to retain $xx hundred of dollars and the insurance will pay the rest(regardeless of fault). It's possible that your insurance company will waive your deductible for you, but that is at their own discretion.

The best way and the most ideal way is to go through their insurance company. that way, you dont have to pay anything, and you dont have to deal with reimbursements and stuff.
