Mirror's Edge 2!!

I liked the first one a lot but it was still rough around the edges. The series has a lot of potential. Surprised nobody else has attempted a first-person platformer.

The first one was a decent bargain bin game imo, I didn't really like the combat though. I'll definitely keep an eye out for a steam sale for this one.

That's what I loved about it.....it wasn't a combat oriented game.

Truly unique gameplay isn't something that comes a long very often, but Mirror's Edge, IMO, delivered on so many levels. Art direction, gameplay, interesting characters.......just a fantastic game, IMO.

Correct. My only worry is that they will try to appeal to the masses and they will make Mirror's Edge a combat-focused game, which clearly it should not be.

Mirror's Edge was a fantastic game in so many ways. The idea of a free-running/parkour oriented video game is brilliant, and it was fun to play it multiple times over to try to familiarize yourself with the levels so you can run through them as smoothly as possible.

I will be buying Mirror's Edge 2 without a doubt, assuming they don't fuck it up horribly.

I simply highly doubt that "released when ready" actually works with EA. And besides that there's no way to tell for us gamers that it was "ready" anyway (except for the devs themselves internally, of course). I guess that time will tell. But the problem remains, how can we know it was "actually ready" upon release in the first place? Instead, when devs (or publishers) don't know when a game is going to be ready and is under development, but they still want to announce it (or make a trailer for it) then they should simply say "release date to be announced". Wasn't Blizzard telling us for about three years that Diablo III would be released when ready? And was it "really ready" when released? I think we know the answer to that one (and many others, too).

Don't say "when it's ready". I mean that's a very old rhetoric in video gaming. I still remember Nintendo (in Nintendo Power issues mostly) stating how their next Zelda or Mario game would be released (or announcing the date of release) "when ready", they categorically refused to even just say "release date TBA". As a consumer I have no way to tell it was actually "time for release, because it's now ready". If the fans of the original Mirror's Edge or the newcomers alike end up disappointed by the sequel they'll still complain, even if it was in development for five years. In fact they'll probably say "it was rushed and wasn't ready" anyhow. Haven't devs been through enough of this since the past... oh... two decades of gaming to know it'll happen like that by now?

But anyway, regardless of that claim at the end of the trailer, it looks interesting.

someone told me that it was going to be open world...

imagine if it were open world and online. you would see people jumping around everywhere. it would be quite a view

I think "when it's ready" has kind of been a term used during early development stages, and has probably resulted from the lashings that occur when a rough release date is set and the devs aren't able to hit it (this is especially true in modding circles, though I don't understand the spew of venom on folks that are doing stuff for free out of their own generosity).

I think this is a better approach than other methods of marketing, such as complete silence (I think we know who) without any sort of response to loyal fans.

I'm also glad to see that about half this teaser was actual gameplay, as opposed to a lot of new game teasers which are nothing more than rendered animation, or even worse, the "live-action trailer" (good lord.....who thought that was a good idea?)

Even though its pretty short, we can see a bit of where they're going with it, so I'm pretty happy with what information we were given.

And Frostbite 3? Yes. I'm happy about that.

TBH that didn't look like true gameplay. It looked more like a rendered scene but from the first person view the game will be in anyway.

I liked the setting and visuals but I felt like the controls were poor and I just don't know if I think a speedy/precise platformer can really work in the conventional first person PoV. I tried it and I felt like it didn't do a very good job of conveying your physical "position" and it made timing jumps/making landings/slides/etc cumbersome. Though I've had the same gripe with some of the 'platforming' in Borderlands and Half Life, so maybe it's just me.
