mkv files?

Hi, i have a movie (extension mkv) that was split into 3 files. I can view the first file but it stops 1/3 into the movie. When trying to view the 2nd file, it doesnt even open. The 3rd file is just audio and no video.


am i suppose to combine all these files together before i can view it properly?

Your files are compressed!

see the .001, .002 and .003 extension?

What you need to do is rename .001 with .rar
.002 with .r01 and .003 with .r02
Then open .rar with WinRAR to decompress it.


If the mkv file still doesn't play,
Try the CCCP codec pack

I think they have optimisations for anime
Try their FAQ section as well if you have problems

No, they're not compressed, they're just split. WinRAR will not put these files back together. The program I linked above does.

I never knew/seen mkv split file.
Well VLC player would take care of it

Check out the link I provided, read about the splitting software, what it is and what it does.

you're wrong actually. i had a download were the files were .001 to .065

opened it manually with winrar, extracted, worked perfectly.

cubby1223 is right in this case I think. Since the Wiki link OP posted says it's a split file not compressed.
However, most common Internet wares do use WinRAR compression and obscure xxx numberings to trick newbies.

I tried it out myself, split a file into .001, .002, & .003 files. Tried to open it in winrar, threw an error "The archive is either in unknown format or damaged".

Anyway to the OP narutofan36 I think you can download the HDTV version from the wiki you posted. That is a full unsplit version.
