MMMMMM, I LOVE port!

Nothing better to end the day than a good glass of port! My personal affordable favorite is Hardy Whisker's Blake 8 Year Tawny.

Wikipedia had a good entry on port a while back that suggested four Australian tawny's that are top notch, made in the old style, and the Hardys was on there. Unfortunately, it's been edited out so I'm trying to dig it up in the history.

Anybody else love ports and have some recommendations? In particular, I love the caramel-colored tawnys, based on what I've tried. Best port I've had so far was a Koves-Newlan 40 year old tawny. Way too expensive for my regular consumption list.

Port's a bit sweet, but pretty good after a nice dinner. I've only had entry level portuguese port, but it was quite tasty. It reminded me of typical german raisin red wine but with more flavor.

I believe it was Ruby Porto by Gilberts. I dunno if you have a Best Cellars local, but thats where I got it from.


On a slightly different topic, Remy Martin XO Excellence warm is pretty good with chocolate bomba and truffles.

I like Cockburn's. Usually can be had for about $8-$10. Occasionally I'll pick up the Special Reserve for a few bucks more as well.

Yeah, ever since I was introduced to it about a year ago I enjoy it. I'll have to try some of the brands you guys mentioned.

Try a tawny (I'd recommend Hardy Whisker's Blake) and a ruby. US made tawnys seem to be made in a more modern style, and I like the old style tawnys better. S. America, Australia and Portugual make more old style.

I love port, particularly a good tawny. If any of you port lovers are ever in Napa, go check out Prager they make some wonderful ports and I absolutely fell in love with their white port

Some of the Australian ports are, yeah.
