I spent this past week pushing to hit 50 (Mrs. Avogadro was away on a business trip so why not?), and getting geared up to run expert dungeons. I tried Iron Tombs and Foul Cascade so far, so my experience is limited. But even with that, I feel sure that what other people have said about expert dungeons rings true.
If you are a fresh 50, be aware that expert dungeons are challenging! You definitely will want to be careful joining pickup groups. The Tier 1 (easier) experts aren't so much gear checks unless you are a tank. What new expert-runners really need to worry about seems to be:
1) Knowing the gimmicks of each boss fight. Each fight seems to have one or two, and basically if you "get it" the fight's fairly easy, but if not you wipe.
2) Making sure people can punch out reasonable amounts of damage, healing, or threat. That's a combination of decently-performing soul specs combined with reasonable PvE playing skill, although gear obviously helps too.
3) Having a good group composition: melee DPS can contribute, but DPSing from range - especially on boss fights - is so much safer and easier. You will definitely need some sort of offhealing support from a bard or chloromancer too. What you ideally want is 1 tank, 1 full healer, 1 support healer/extra DPS, and 2 full DPS, preferably ranged.
As far as the patch 1.1 changes go, meh. Nerfs are never fun, but then again I don't think Trion had in mind that people would have all the end-game content fully beaten 2-3 weeks after headstart launch.
Estrael is a slower-progressing server: no guild that I know of is working on Greenscale, and only a few are doing the Tier 2 (harder) expert dungeons. I've long since stopped caring about "server first/world first" stuff, but my main beef with 1.1 is that it feels like Trion is pulling away the football on us more casually-paced players by stretching out the gear grind and nerfing a lot of souls and soul combos.
