Hello.
I'm wanting to build my 1st PC. One that can handle 2 instances of an MMO (similar to WorldofWarCraft), teamspeak & occasionally some added surfing...
3700+, 3800+ 2x, Opty 165?
Epox, MSi, Asus? (Dfi over my head?)
2Gig ram. (not even a guess)
priorities are rock-solid stability, stock performance (to accomplish goal above), learn some mild OCing.
I have a thermaltake 430w & will order eVGA 7800GT, XP home.
Thanks for any suggestions.

I think with the operating system you will find that with those parts it will be tough to keep it even under the $700 limit. Oh I think I understand, you are only looking for the CPU/MOBO/Memory combo for $700, OK we can do that for you.

Let me see if this works for you

1. CPU-don't skimp here go with the X2 3800+=$295 or Opteron 165=$340
2. MOBO-Epox 9npa+ Ultra=$100
3. Memory-Corsair Value Select $150

This equals about $550, the Epox board is pretty good for first time Overclockers, it has the ability to do some great things, but isn't overwhelming to a N00b. The board has also won Editor's choice here at AnAndTech. If you really want to crazy with the overclock down the road you spend a bit more and get the Opteron 165, this thing overclocks like crazy. I would just stick with the Corsair VS for your memory, if you want to spend the extra money you can go with something like OCZ Platinum EL for like $220, but it won't give you too much of a performance increase over the Corsair.

I would go in the direction of the eVga 7800GT OC if you are gonna go with a 7800GT like you stated, that card is simply awesome for the price right now.

The Opteron 165 is a Dual Core with better overclocking ability then the X2's, so why definitely get the X2???

I would agree with you, but I think you are confused...the reason I would agree is if the OP doesn't want to overclock too much, if he does then he should go with the Opteron for the extra money he could get some serious speeds out of it much easier then the X2.
