So I've got an MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum, after reading lots of good things on it. Also have an AMD 3200+. working relatively well for a while, went to put a new hs/f on it as I wanted to try and get the temps down. So everything is back, and I go to boot up in dual channel, non-oced, and it starts beeping, and no video or anything shows up. Checked the mem, and it was in right. Even tried it in the other dual channel spot, and it still beeps. Only way I can get anything is in single channel mode. The little led code lights show a memory error. I have tested 3 sets of memory, all which have been in this machine, and which are currently working in other systems, so it's not that. Tried different bios versions, setting to failsafes, resetting cmos, changing timings, command rates, to no avail. It does seem to work in single channel mode, although noticably slower to me.
So I have come to the conclusion, that it is either the CPU or mobo. Given the above description, which do you think it is? Considering the CPU was OEM (ie no warranty left, and I've only really ever had one CPU fail on me), I would guess it could very will be the motherboard, in which case it will be going for RMA and replaced with another board since the RMA is up to 6 weeks (and no option for a deposited cross-ship), and after having the board for a while, I'm not as fond of it as the reviewers were. Personally, I find having to reset a cmos jumper on the board to be crazy, as normally it's always been hold down insert to clear it from a cold boot. Among other things like major errors between the motherboard and the manual... Anyway, I come for the wisdom here, as taking it in to local techs, I feel like they are going to say CPU since it's obviously the more expensive part. Besides, my computers have never been to techs, and I feel like it would be giving up part of my manhood.
