All a scan is, is reading information on a product via the barcode. In Wal-Marts case if the information in the computer reads $99, then that's what they are going to tell you. More often than not on something like that the item will ring up "Item Not Found." In those cases, they will bring out the trusty Telzon (Gray Gun), scan it, and if the item is not updated in the perpetual inventory, they can update it, but it will substitute in that $99 price(if that's the price it came in as). That is why it rings up that much. I know what I'm talking about. I did it for close to 2 years. While they are in that update mode, department managers and a few trusty associates can change that and throw in a markdown price. It will tell them exactly how much it cost Wal-Mart and will either make a markdown that will be slightly over cost or just take the loss completely. That is the deal behind Wally and outdated prices...
Every Wal-Mart is the same as far as the home office, not listing the item anymore. Each INDIVIDUAL store has the right to sell at whatever the cost they want too. Small democracy in the big corperation.
