Hey fellas, not that I'm trolling but I've posted this in GH, high tech, and Case & cool coz this applies to all.

First off, i saw a luminglas display for $20 at frys and thought it was really cool. I wanted to buy it but didn't at the moment. No biggie.

(just an image, wasn't exactly like the frys one)
Plasma Luminglas

Since the creation of my machine a few months back, I've been hitting it up with blacklights n UV innards for fun. I thought of cool idea to put the luminglas in the right panel, as its just a boring old black face.

My questions are as followed:
1. The plug of the glass is a standard wall outlet plug (is it called DC? i dono, im noobish). the glass maybe 4" to 10" in diameter, I have to figure that out. Can i strip the wire and attach it to a PSU accordingly?

2. I have a 430W PSU. Anyone who owns one of these know if its a power guzzler?

3. I've no idea how to use a dremel, but pure excitement helps me ignore that.

If all goes well and this crazy idea gets off the ground, instant pic for all (even if this idea isnt original =/ )

I really don't know much about these, but I wouldn't strip the wire and try to take apart your psu and toy with it (especially if you don't even know how to use a dremel). Maybe you have put it on the case and then run the wire out the back through and empty PCI slot or something. Playing with the psu insides is dangerous and tough.

Yeah, I opened my PSU once because I wanted to replace the ordinary fans with blue LED fans and the next thing I know, somehow without me touching anything the thing had a shortcircut afterwards and I had to get a new one -_- man that sucked.

1) Wall outlet is 120v 60Hz AC. Your power supply produces DC for your computer components which will not work on AC.

2) Your power supply is rated at a max of 430w. No, that isn't that much of a power draw, but your power supply only draws what it needs to power your components. So depending upon what you have, you might be only pulling 350 watts... Just depends upon what you have.

3) Avoid the trouble of using a dremel (and having to replace your case). Just take out of one of the plates that covers your expansion slots, and run the cord through that if you can. Definitely do not do any stripping of the wires for your power cord, or PSU.

Also, posting in several places is frowned upon, and against the rules here, FYI. Best thing to do in that respect is to post in one place, and see if you get the answers you need. If you don't get the info you need, let the thread die (a few days), and then post somewhere else.

thanks tas. my idea was gonna sorta be like this:
Side
I wanted to cut a perfect circle to show the display of the luminglas, but not have it FIT into the hole.

2. I wasn't clear. Does anyone know if the luminglas is a power guzzler and whether a 430w psu wud be sufficient. Its an Antec, so I'm pretty confident in its capabilities. (assuming I have a stroke of genius and attach the stripped plug to a molex)

The bottom line is that it doesn't matter if the PSU has 1000 watts of power, the highest voltage line on the psu is a 12 volt DC line, while anything like your lumiglass that plugs into the wall needs a 120 volt AC line. An AC appliance can't run off of a DC line, much less run at 10% of the intended voltage.

You should know by now wattage doesn't matter. Take a look at amperage instead.

And regarding the above, it can run on DC with a converter

Cutting a perfect hole is easy. You could take it to a local metal shop and they can do it for you quite easily. As far as using the PSU, if the thing was designed to be plugged into the wall, there is no way that you are going to be able to use the power supply to power it up... Sorry.
