Note -- I deleted the address posted and quoted in a number of replies. Please do not repost it. This kid deserves whatever happens to him for his theft, but his parents already have enough problems with their juvenile delinquent son. They don't need any added hassles from our members.

There's not much to add. Mods can view members' IP addresses. I just plugged it into an IP address locator to find the area and worked from there. When I reached his mom, as politely as possible, I told her the story and asked if she wanted me to e-mail her a link to his post. She gave me her address, and I sent her the link.

She hasn't replied, at least yet, so I can only speculate with the rest of you about what she did, but I hope young Pat will be out of his personal comfort zone for awhile.

I've been an AT Mod for over ten years so I've had time to practice. You may have heard stories that, when it comes to real bad guys, AT Mods are bad asses. We want them to believe it and stay away from our members. He's lucky he's only 16. If he was an adult, I wouldn't have hesitated to notify his local police, instead of his parents.

I'm not the only one. We've got great mods, and we work closely with the Troll Hunters and mods from other forums to stop thieves. We've got great forums and great members. We do it because we enjoy the forums as much as anyone, and we want to keep them this way.

all it takes is someone else to do the detective work like this and you have our masses jumping on the bandwagon going for blood. The kid could have been pulling shens, Harvey handled it responsibly.

alright, i got a computer that used to be networked onto a server with classlinks in school or whatever., well i got it home thinking i could reformat the hard drive, yeah...no. they set up a password on the computer so when i go to the utility options or whatever, and it has a password as soon as it opens. and to let you know nothing boots. i tried installing XP but im almost 100% sure that that password is blockin the coputer from accessing it, bc when i go to install XP it says no mass storgae device found. So how do i over ride this password. i changed the RAM and switched out the hard drives, then i took out that little battery for 10 min or so..no luck, Somone please help me.
