Monitor making a clicking noise

I have a 19" Trinitron tube monitor that is about 5 yrs old. Just this past week when I turn it on or off I get a rapid clicking sound for a few seconds. However it is functioning just fine besides that. It's currently running @ 85Hz on my geforce 2 ultra at 1280x1024.

I'm thinking it's about ready to go out on me from the sounds of it, anyone have experiance with this problem?

Sounds like the high voltage flyback transformer or the anode wire lead is arcing! Very high voltages exsist (typical 15k volts) on the Anode of the tube do not open it up! May work for a while but save your pennys for a new one!

I agree with flyback transformer.

Just a few days ago my 32" tv starting clicking like this and just went dead. I read up on this page. I did what is suggested and put some of that orange stuff for making gaskets on car engines on the spot of the flyback transformer that was arcing, and so far so good. Don't try this if you don't understand what he's talking about here.

At first I tried the electical tape to cover the flyback but that didn't work. I waited too long and now the tv has no audio. So don't make it click too much longer or you'll damage some other component, because when that thing is arcing it looks like a damn tesla coil.

Wait a moment, is it a 'clicking' or a loud 'snapping' noise?

welp, it's stopped working entirely now. Yesterday the screen just went black after more noise. I turned it on a few mins later, and I hear a pop kinda sound and smelled a bit like a lightbulb burnt out. So ya, it's dead. Just got a new monitor today.

I had this with a dell monitor at work it started make the clicking noises and then started to smoke
