Sup people, im looking to get a new monitor right now, looking from 17-19 inch and am wondering what kind i should get for gaming.

I have a 17in from Gem right now and especially while playing Counter-Strike with my video card gamma, game gamma and monitor brightness turned all teh way up, i can';t see in semi dark - dark places. Like on de_train if there are people under the trains i pretty much need to have nightvision on all the time.

I hear NEC/Mitsubishi or Viewsonic is good too. Any specific models?

What exactly does dot pitch mean and do? When i go look at monitors i always see dot pitch there and im not sure what to expect from it.

I'm looking to spend no more than 3-400 dollars on this puppy. Any input is appreciated as usual.

THanks in advance

The dot pitch is the distance apart the pixels are,of course the closer they are the better the pic,so smaller numbers win. Honestly,if you want a monitor to game with then save a few more bucks and go with a 21 or 22". They have those as low as $500.00 or so,the difference between a 17" and a 22 is amazing. I use a Cornerstone 22" for FS2004 and its great. Tiny gauges that are hard to read on a 17" are easily read on a 22. Everything is just bigger. People don't upgrade monitors all that often, when you do you really need to go with one that you'll want for years and years.

getting an LCD for gaming is pure stupidity IMO. Nothing against you tho Kamixkaze for asking the question. U save space but it's just not the same. You get shadows and such even with a really kick ass lcd

CRT all the way.

Thank you for your input sysbuilder, with my 17 right now im having trouble read some messages now that you mention it. So i will definately take your advice into serious consideration

Samsung

Anyone have an experience with this monitor or read any reviews on it recently?

Cornerstone

Here's another one im looking at

NEC

And another

Viewsonic

And last so far from this website

One thing im finding great about this website is that they offer a 3 year warranty and no hassle return policy within 30 days of purchase. Paying for one way shipping back to them only and no restocking fee. Even if you buy and LCD monitor and u get a dead pixel they'll replace it for you within one business day

BTW, since no one else has answered your q I will. Dot pitch is the spacing in between pixels. The lower the number the better and the finer the picture. Higher numbers, like old Packard Bell .39 dp @%&# will give you headaches, and will be really fuzzy.

BTW, don't use sandpaper on it

Edit: ah, someone answered already in the 2nd post. I didn't see that. sorry about the repost

I talked with nec about the rumors the 930 was discontinued:

Mitzi Garland: Hi RB! How may I help you?
RB: hi mitzi
RB: was the 930 discontinued?
Mitzi Garland: I don't think it has been discontinued, let me see if I can make sure.
RB: some have been saying that in forums, newegg and dell do not carry it now supposedly
Mitzi Garland: ok, I am not able to see it on the Dell site for sale either, but my supervisor did just say that it has not been discontinued. We may just currently be out of stock to the distribution channels at the moment
RB: I see, I thought it was strange that the best quality 19" monitor which is relatively new would be dc'd
Mitzi Garland: indeed
RB: I will post this then, thanks
Mitzi Garland: ok
Mitzi Garland: Thanks
