Monitor to replace TV?

My old TV recently died and I was thinking instead of buying a new LCD tv, I would just buy a new monitor and get a tv tuner card.

Is this a good idea?

What kinds of specs do I need to look for? I would imagine HDMI for xbox 360 and HDCP.

Should I get a 24" or 30" or 2 22"?

Many of the new flat panel TV's come with VGA and/or HDMA connectors so you can use them for apps that can take advantage of a large screen like home theater, gaming etc, but I think you're better off getting a good HDTV that's already set up for that and includes your tuner.

My personal preference (subject to new models which come out all the time) is the better Samsung LCD's. They've got great contrast, and they've got black down. :thumbsup:

Typically a TV would have too low resolution or be too big to use at a desk, while a monitor would be too small to use for a TV replacement and not have the extra connectors needed for your consoles and such. These LCD HDTVs might interest you though. They are 32-37" in size which is still acceptable for a desk, while being high enough resolution for computer use. Also, they have multiple inputs plus most have tuners built-in. They also start at a lower price than 30" computer LCD monitors.

I use my Dell Ultrasharp 24 inch as both PC monitor and also as HDTV TV monitor as it does accept a 1080i signal from my cable box.
