Montreal Canada, Eh?

Soo I've decided to randomly venture to the town of my favorite brewery for a bit of a vacation in March. We're planning to be there a little over 7 days... and I have no clue what to do other than try to visit my favorite brewery (Unibroue).

So I'm looking for a few tips on things to do in the area, as well as where to stay. Some people have told me it's best to stay at a hotel near the Orange line, basically saying it's the main line that you will probably use. I have no idea at this point.

Anyone from Montreal (or Canada in general) that has some travel tips?

To do list so far:
-Drink beer every night, ideally at places with delicious Belgian's
-Go to a crêperie, since that's one thing frenchies got right
-Visit Unibroue brewery, or at least their restaurant
-See Notre-Dame Basilica

... Sooo it's pretty light overall.

Also, is this really how Canadians talk and look? I just want to know to be prepared

Buy some square tires, your American round tires won't grip the snow well.

Are you driving there? I tend to stay furthur out and take the metro into downtown or drive in if it is a big party. I will definitly pick metro over driving in March.

What kind of stuff do you like to do?

Nah flying in from the lower states. We're planning to get a hotel somewhere downtown (ideally the most convenient for getting around) and not renting a car. If we can't get to where we want to go by metro then we can uber.

Ok. Montreal is pretty convenient. You either Metro or walk to the tourist areas. May want to skip mont-royal since hiking it in the winter sucks. Biking is also out for March.

Definitely try Montreal Smoked Meat.

My fiancee is canadien so I'm up there alot. The best part is it's hard to get lost because you know, there's only one road in Canada.

There's actually 2 roads now. The second one is for the tank to patrol the border, sometimes they open it to the public on days they don't patrol. Usually during hockey games.

Brasseurs de Montreal has a delicious belgian and other delicious beers. They also recently opened a Pit Caribou in Montreal, a microbrewery originating in Perce. They have the most awesome IPA i've had so far. Dieu du Ciel is another awesome microbrewery in Montreal. I've always liked 3 Brasseurs, either the one on Crescent or McGill, I am partial to their white beer but everything they have is good. Great value on the 1L mug. Brutopia is one of the best cheapest microbrews, you can drink for $5-$6/pint there, they're friendly and have live music almost every night, often very good ones! They have a lot of good stuff.

Oh.. you wanted suggestions of other stuff... ah well then i dunno

There will be snow on the ground. Be prepared for below freezing temps.

Eat poutine, obviously.

Drinking age is 18 in Quebec, so if you're into 18 year olds... well there's that.

If you go out of the core, people will hate you for speaking English. Yes, really. And moreso if you're American. It is usually pretty easy to tell.

Not far from Ottawa and lots to see there too.

I've been in -13 C when I was in Russia, so this can't be any worse.

Added Poutine to my to-do list.

Thankfully, my wife can at least serve as a translator for me if any Frenchies are talking smack

I'm much more of a Belgian beer guy... Double, Tripels, Quads, Abbey Ale.... any of those. The stronger the alcohol and more full of flavor the better.

Brasseurs de Montreal added to my list

Dieu du Ciel and Le Trois brassuer were already on my list, definitely want to check them out

Le Saint Bock, BENELUX, Pub L'Ile Noire, and Maison des Vins were also on my list, any word if they are any good?

Feels weird to keep reading "smoked meat". Sounds so generic. We call that barbecue around these parts (I know you weirdos seem to refer to any form of grilling as BBQ but it ain't).
