OK here's the info:
Got a Broker's name from a friend. Been on and off talking for a couple years, but nothing serious.
Recently I started looking for homes and found one really fast. This broker got me pre-approved and a "basic" GFE so I could have an idea of what my payment would be.
The GFE wasn't adding up and I had some questions, but he always brushed them off with "It's not final, we'll work all that out, don't worry". Well I did worry, so I showed them to a couple friends who are in the industry.
They said I was getting ripped off on the backend and he was trying to make extra money off me cause I'm a mortgage newb. They also said the paperwork was wrong, taxes were done incorrectly, and the GFE date was from 2007 making it invalid anyways.
So at the same time, I get pre-approved with a friends company, saved $100+ per month on my payment and a bunch of out of pocket expenses went down.
I sent the original Broker an email cause I was in meetings all day letting him know that I wouldn't be continuing my business with him, I decided to work with a friend who I felt more confortable with.
He then FLAMES me for basically stringing him along and not letting him counter this offer I received, using him as a "Widget", basically a nice "F*** off" at the end, with my Realtor CC'd, who is friends with him.
Immediately my Realtor called (she was aware the day before I was going to switch) and apologized for his complete lack of professionalism, saying how she couldn't believe he did this, blah blah.
Was I wrong here? Did I violate some ethical code of conduct here? I believe, if you can find a better deal, take it. To me, it's no different than buying a Car......if you can't provide your best price/service the first time, I won't give you a second chance.
Cliffs:
- Worked with a Lender via email
- His GFE was iffy
- Friend hooked me up with a good broker
- Original Broker got pissed, and flamed me in email cause I wouldn't let him counter the offer
- Mackie2k saved $100 a month and bought himself a nice BBQ
