MOS 6502 Assembly Language

I want to learn 6502 assembly language so I can make programs for NES as a hobby. Can someone here recommend me a good tutorial, assembler and any other tools I may need for NES software development for someone who is not familiar with any assembly language?

I would recommend first picking an assembly language that does have a lot of documentation and tutorials and then moving on to the 6502. Once you know one architecture, you can pretty much program for them all.

x86 and ARM both have tons of assembly tutorials. I would start there making simple programs and then tackle the 6502 after you feel comfortable with those.

If someone has a good tutorial for the 6502, then by all means you can start there. I just don't think you'll find anything better than instruction references.

Ahhh, memories. I learned 6502 so very long ago for the Atari 800 and then Commodore 64.

I think I still have the source code for my C=64 port of Sea Dragon around here somewhere . . .

You could acquire a .d64 image of something like Merlin and run a C-64 emulator on your PC. That would probably be the cheapest and easiest way to get started, once you've located the educational material (a lot of which could probably be had with some online searching).

8-bitters will probably start an argument about which assembler was the best one. I used Merlin back in the 80s, and it worked fine for me, but there are others also.
