Honestly, I've never had a pistol misfire. I've had failure to feed, but only with my .22.
Failures to feed and eject are probably the only two issues you'd ever run into. Both are very often attributed to the kind of ammo, as some guns are picky. Some magazines are also picky.
As mentioned already though, the Glocks, springfields, sigs, and higher end 1911's have very few issues if ever after the break in period.
And to whomever asked about finding a glock with a manual safety : The only one I can think of that is remotely similar to the glock with a manual safety is -some- models of the springfield XD's. I have a 4" XD .45 with the manual safety, and I can't imagine not having it. But apparently they are rare, and there are only select models that offer it. If you're worried and you want another safety other than your finger, look at the sub compact XD's as they offer a backstrap safety that blocks the firing pin until depressed.
