I'm working on a build with a ryzen 9 and I'm trying to figure out what motherboard to get. I've noticed the Gigabyte boards are generaly more expensive then most other brands, are they better than the others or are they just overpriced? What would be a good option for this CPU?

Gigabyte's boards are excellent from the hardware standpoint. Their X570 line-ups have solid VRMs that stay cool under load, their layout designs are generally superb, and rear-panel ports selection is also logical. All of which give you an impression that the boards are well planned and well executed. Their RGB blings tend to be moderate and tasteful in comparison to, say, MSI's or ASRock's, which is a plus in my book.

All these positive feelings evaporate once you face all the irrationality in the BIOS. If you simply want to select an XMP profile and call it a day, then yes they are a solid choice. If you want to tinker around in the BIOS then I highly recommend ASUS or MSI instead.

What kind of stuff are you referring too? I don't plan to overclock anything so to my knowledge I shouldn't really have to change anything. Is there anything I'm going to have to change to where I'll wind up with the same issues your describing?

......
What do you recommend for the cheaper B450 boards? Looking at the Steel legend, Asus Prime/TUF, Gigabyte..

Is this in reference to my thread or bononos post?
Ahhhh, I just reread. Its not you suggesting the cheapo boards. So my call is a x570 board to get the most out of your CPU (the PCIE4) or a good x470 if that doesn't float your boat.

I like my ASUS X570 TUF gaming WIFI for $199

I've noted exactly what you are saying to be true in the past with Gigabyte mobos. But NOT with the X570 mobos. They have completely reworked the bios, and it is much, much, MUCH better than before. So I'm curious to know which boards you are referring to, as I've noted a huge change recently.
As for the OP, I totally recommend the Gigabyte X570 Master or the Asus Crosshair VIII Hero. Either board can be great for your cpu, regardless if it's a 3900x or 3950x. You will have great performance either way. I NORMALLY choose the Asus over Gigabyte, but in this case after weighing pros and cons, I went with the Gigabyte Master. The Asus looks better, has better IO on the rear and a better bios. But it only has a one year warranty, and only two m.2 nvme bays. The Gigabyte Master has a three year warranty, three m.2 bays, better vrm's and cooling, and has done better with high speed memory than the Asus. So it just depends which features you want more, as to which one you should pick. Cheers!
