First, I really appreciate all your help in building my new computer.

I have one more question. The new computer has:
AMD XP 2800+ (FSB 333)
ECS N2U400 (FSB 100,133,166,200)
Kingston 3200 memory (FSB 400)

My "current" AGP card is 4 year old Winfast GeForce2 GTS. Have a Rosewill 9200se coming this week.

For now, I think I should be able to set the motherboard to 166 for the FSB 333 of the CPU. But I think I tried that once last night (it was VERY late), and things locked up, and I had to reset CMOS on Motherboard a few times (or let things cool down). Finally, I'm back and running (thanks also to a poster's help with hard drive transfer which I tested with a back-up drive first).

Should I be able to run the motherboard FSB at 166 at least? I think I've seen others that run this combo at an FSB 200 or something in between 166 and 200.

Or is the old video card holding things back? Right now, I'm running the motherboard at the default FSB of 100.

Your thoughts are very much apppreciated.

Thanks again,

Jeff

assuming your motherboard has official support for 166mhz fsb (which it appears to) then no, it wont have anything to do with the video card (cause either way your vid card is gonna be running at 66mhz)

what powersupply are you using?

what powersupply are you using?
Antec True 380s

And the motherboard choices in bios for FSB are 100, 133, 166, 200.

Also, I thought I'd read that you could increment the FSB in increments of 1, but haven't found that yet.

But I think I should be able to run at least at 166 with my 333 cpu, and 400 memory,.

yeah, you should be able to run 166mhz no problem with the parts you listed above

could be some faulty part. you might want to test the ram (memtest.org) you can download memtest86

also try setting all the bios settings to "default" and then bump up the fsb to 166mhz again

I'm going to now transfer the actual hard drive (the last was a test) and try to load all the motherboard drivers.

It was VERY late last night when I did this, and I maybe set FSB at 200 instead of 166.

Stay tuned for more details in this fast breaking story.....

EDIT: I changed FSB to 166 today and things still work fine, I must have been too tired last night, and set it at 200.
