Ive never had a problem with a case or powersupply so i guess thats the reason i looked at it last. I just bought a new antec sonata and have been having tons of problems.
First bought an Abit NF7S, worked fine for a couple days and then died. Had it replaced and the replacement never booted. Had it replaced and got an Albatron KX18DPRO2. Everything worked fine except when I used the front audio port on the Sonata for the mic it had horrible static.
I called albatron support and they said it was either a grounding problem with the board or i had the plugs for the front audio wrong. the guy said open the case, leave the computer on, and start changing the little plugs around for the front audio, second i pulled one out to reconnect it elsewhere, the machine just zaps off and nothing. It did reboot but now the back audio will not work at all, reformatted and still nothing. Speakers work fine and the front audio still works so windows settings/drivers are fine, reformatted anyways and still no change.
Ive tested everything in another machine and it all worked fine so that leaves me with the case and power supply. I am RMA'ing the Antec power supply to antec so they are sending me a replacement and im getting another Abit NF7s.
What is going on and how do I make sure this doesn't happen again? I've had a computer plugged into this same outlet forever and never had a problem along with other electronics so I don't think it is the power. I will buy a cheap UPS though to make sure. I will also use my old Enermax 350 watt PS that was in my old machine and never caused any problems. All the other components are known to work fine from testing in another machine. How do I make sure the motherboard is not grounded and frying itself? I've never had this problem before. Antec said they won't replace the case, just the power supply. Is there a way to insulate it or something to make sure it is not touching the case anywhere? I'm not sure what I'm even looking for, if a motherboard is grounded, where might it be touching the case? is it not lined up with the standoffs properly?
sorry for long post, this is frustrating, thanks!
