Of course. The question, I suppose, is will the OS work on the new computer? Can I pop the old HDD into a brand new computer I've built?
Wait, is this a question about an OEM copy of Windows?

Yeah. What's on the drive? If it's Windows, there's more questions to ask. If it's data, there are some more questions to be asked, too. If there's nothing of value on the disk, then, no problem.Wait....
No, it isn't OEM. I just wanted to make sure that, if I built a new computer, the boot HDD will function as before.
The os will detect new hardward on the new MB and "might/should" install it.
But you never know...Till U try.
Whether Windows will boot or not depends on how similar the "old" and "new" disk controllers are. There's ways to work around this. It also depends on the OS and whether you had advanced warning that you were going to move the OS disk to a new motherboard.I just wanted to make sure that, if I built a new computer, the boot HDD will function as before.
