Motherboard recommendation for Celeron?

I'm generally an all-AMD guy, but my mother built a computer in a class she took to prepare for the A+ test, and the motherboard seems to be fried. I need to find her a replacement so she can actually use the computer she built (she's obviously not really qualified for the A+ test), but I've never dealt with Intel so I don't know what chipsets are good and all that. Anyone know a good stable motherboard for Celerons (I think it's a 1.4GHz)? I prefer ASUS motherboards, and onboard audio and NIC would be preferred. If I'm not posting enough information let me know, like I said I've never built a computer with an Intel processor.

Edit: It also needs to support DDR RAM

If money is a concern then the ECS P4VXASD2+ is a reliable board. don't expect much but they are cheap and reliable.

1.4GHz? That would be a Socket 370 board, and a Tualatin chip to boot.

Intel i815-Bstep if you can find it. There's usually a few floating around on eBay, long as you don't need AGP slots.

Money is not that much of a concern... she got this computer for free, because it was included with the class which was paid for by her school (she is a teacher). I'd rather not go super-cheap. My roommate in college always went super-cheap on his motherboards and had tons of problems. I told him if he wanted me to fix his computer, he'd have to buy a better motherboard.

You're speaking greek to me... is that good or bad? (I knew it was Socket 370... but then I thought all Celerons were )

Intel has changed the pins of the socket god knows how many times...

Socket 370 Tualtin is referring to a specific Celeron processor (the last good Celery processor)...

Its like saying "Socket A Palomino"

If you have a fry's by you head over to them and pick up the 2000+/k7s5a for 69.99

Can't go wrong with the ASUS TUSL2-C, but it doesn't have onboard LAN.

I'd highly recommend finding an Intel D815EEA2U (w/o onboard LAN) or a D815EEA2LU (w/ onboard LAN). Has onboard graphics AND an AGP slot. They'll probably run you $100 new. The D815EPEA2U is the same board w/o the onboard graphics. Note that the "U" is really important in both cases--it means universal, and will support the Tualatin processors.

Intel boards, if you're not overclocking, are HIGHLY recommended--very stable solutions.

Good luck finding one!

Look at my signature below, the Epox board is very good, only problem for you is that it doesn't support DDR memory.

Yep, that one or the Abit ST-6

We have alot of MS-6368's at work, and they have onboard video, lan and sound.

Finding Pentium III/Tualatin motherboards is getting harder these days.

sell the Celeron, and get a AMD 2000/K7S5A for $70 and it will kick the living sh!t out of any Celeron you can buy today

I'd cut my big toe off before purchasing a Celeron...sure they work fine for avg joes, but why waste money on those when a Athlon XP 1700-2000 is same price?

and never buy electronics over ebay...

Try finding one in mATX format with an AGP slot. Now that's damn near impossible. :Q

Ah crap, it's a 1.7 GHz... looking on Pricewatch, it looks like that's a different pin configuration (478 pins)? So then would it use the same motherboard as a P4? That seems like it would make things a lot easier to find. Any good recommendations for a motherboard now?

I'm considering selling it on eBay and getting her an Athlon XP instead, but I'd rather not do that if I don't have to.
