Im looking at buying a used SV650S right now. I went last night to see the bike. Its in great condition. No scratches nothing on it. I took it for a test drive, and everything seemed to be fine. No problems, very smooth ride. A relative had suggested that i take it to a dealer to have it looked over to make sure theres nothing wrong with it. The seller says he doesnt really have all the time to do that, but would try and set something up. What are your suggestions? I called a dealer and he said around $180 for a compression test, and around $90 for a fluid check, etc.

What's the mileage on the bike? Unless it has super-high miles, I'd say a compression test would be a waste of money. As long as the guy has had all the services done (esp valve adjustments) everything should be fine assuming it hasn't been crashed or abused (doesn't sound like it has).

Anywho, given the miles it's probably fine. The engine should be in great shape unless the guy wailed on it during the breakin period.

I need a new bike and that one is great Anyways that shoud be no problems, My suzuki gr650 has 125000 miles on it and now it has finnaly broke, that bike should be fine. DOnt spend the money of a compressing test with only 3600 miles on the bike it should be fine. Get the bike and have fun

Thanks a lot for the input guys. Ive called some dealers and they said that the inspections would just be external and then a test drive. This is something Ive already done, and it doesnt seem like I should pay them to do what I have.

On a side note, I do need a jacket. Does anyone know if these has the hard elbow/back/shoulder armor, or if it is just the soft stuff?

Removable spine pad and dual density body armor <----- that's the hard stuff.

damn I wish I had the money I would buy it in a whiffle.. I can always use a 3rd jacket...

The SVS650 is a nice bike. HOwever I assume you have done the standard testing for the bike. Meaning looking at plugs, the front end, etc etc..

If it rides good then fine.. I just hope you got riding experience.. the SVS650 isnt too powerful its got plenty of power but just becareful cause its got some punch to it.
