The Extreme version varies in one respect I've noticed: the "X-bracket" that fits on top of the heatsink-base for the Extreme is a cross-bar and pivot arrangement with a screw running through the two metal bars -- each with diagonal mounting holes. The original Ultra 120 was a single X-shaped piece of metal, and it was just a tad tricky getting it through the heatpipes to mount it.
This new bracket seems to be quite sturdy, and requires just a little force to twist the pieces around the screw-fitting. Even so, I'm always counting the number of parts in an assembly. The fewer the better, fewer is simpler, and simple is best.
