Mouse For Big Hands.

I'm currently in need of a new mouse. I use and LOVE my TrackBall Explorer 1.0. So much so in fact that I have actually rebuilt it twice now. The bearings are flat, I've used it for so long. The ball cup is old and a bit brittle, and since I have the earlier version, I'd have to drill the old bearings out to replace them and this will most likely tear up the old plastic cup. SO, I have decided to just bite the bullet and go back to a mouse.

Here's the rub, I have huge hands. I need a rat, not a mouse, and since I'm so used to my trackball, going to a regular old mouse might not cut it. I have some ideas, but I'm hoping that someone out there can chime in and offer some "been there" advice. The g500 for example, is just a tad too small for my taste.

Gaming is a priority, but I don't need, nor will I use, a 20 button mouse. 5-7 programmable buttons are just fine. Also, I do very little twitch gaming like FPS games. Mostly strategy and sim games, like Civilization.

The Laser Vertical Mouse is annoying, friend had it, and it sucked, he was trying to get rid of it as well...

Dunno about the other two, I was looking at options myself, and there are no local stores that have those so I can see how they fit large hands...

I am not sure how the Logitech M570 would fare for your hands. Maybe too small.

But if one is insistent on a trackball, I find that this is the only available (inexpensive) current production, good option (sadly) right now.

But HOLY HELL! Almost $500 new!?

I wish manufactures would notice that there is a good demand for a good trackball (finger or thumb) out there. I would never go back to a lift and drag mouse, no matter any new fangled features, or insane button count, that is thrown in.

The 570 is a decent trackball, but I prefer fingertip trackballs. As much as I love them, though, there's a lot of good mice out there and eventually I'll find one I like. Having said that, it's tough not to drop 400 bucks on a new Microsoft Trackball. There's almost always one on ebay for 400 bucks or so.

I remember that site. It seems like those that do make trackballs are stuck in the nineties. It is the same why I feel PC OEMs are stuck in their laptop mentality when making a tablet PC, most of them insistent on the swivel hinge.

All anyone does is copy. And now, Microsoft apparently left the trackball world. And there is no modern equivalent for replacement/new devices to be used (save for Logitech).

Sad, because it is numerously helpful (for me) in wrist health, usable because of an HTPC, and even more so with any PC UI (less lifting, less drag travel). Also, trackballs can work in no surface space (other than the footprint it rests on, stationary).
