Mouse is skipping clicks grrrrrrrr

Hi everyone. I'm new to AnandTech Forums, but it looks pretty cool.

Well I'm trying to see if someone can help me solve a problem I've had with both my Logitech G5 and Logitech G500 mice. Both of these mice are missing clicks...especially left clicks, and I'm an fps gamer so as you can imagine missing clicks in a game will get you killed...lol. I'm at the point now where I'm ready to throw in the towel on Logitech and switch to either Razer or Steelseries. As a matter of fact, if anyone knows of a good mouse of those two brands, I'd love to get your recommendation.

I like the shape of my Logitech mouse, but I just can't tolerate the inconsistent clicking anymore. It does in games the worst but it will also do it, in windows or while I'm surfing. Anybody have a solution? Awesome if you did. Otherwise......

1. Uninstall SetPoint. If that doesn't change anything...
2. Borrow someone else's mouse (be sure it's USB) and test.

The only things those two mice really have in common are the drivers, and your computer.

Quick question: If I uninstall Setpoint, what will my default dpi be? It is 5700dpi when I'm using Setpoint, that's the max for the G500. Just wondering what dpi I'll be using once Setpoint is uninstalled.

Once you make your DPI settings in Setpoint, it's stored in onboard memory. It'll stay the same.

I think you may be on to something zagood. I am working on my daughters laptop, and I'm basically rebuilding it from scratch, software wise. She wanted Vista gone and Windows XP put on her reformatted hard drive.

Well I hate laptops, so when I have to work on one, I usually break out one of my old mice and plug it into the usb port. So I grabbed the G5 and plug it in, and low and behold, the clicks were crisp and never skipped. Of course you already know that I was just using the windows mouse drivers, and they seemed to work great.

I'm a bit scared to uninstall my Setpoint because it has all my custom profiles for the various games I play. But, if I can get my mouse to click the way it does just using windows mouse drivers...it will probably be worth it.

Backup the files in the folder located at C: \Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Logitech\SetPoint

Uninstall drivers. Reboot. Test with windows drivers. If everything's cool up to that point, download and install most recent Setpoint drivers directly from Logitech. Test. Then replace the files in the folder mentioned above.
