Mouse Mat/Pad

Hello all,

I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of my new Corsair Vengeance M95. I believe it's waiting for me when I get home from work today.

This is my first real gaming mouse. Right now, I play mostly FFXIV, but I've also got Skyrim, Just Cause 2, Bioshock Infinite, and XCOM on the go when not in the mood for FFXIV. Being my first gaming mouse, the world of mouse mats has eluded me.

I've not noticed any real appreciable problem with using the table directly instead of a mouse pad for gaming or general usage. I'm wondering if this is attributable to the fact that I've never really owned a good mouse. All of the ones in the past have been crap, so my expectations will be the same old crap. With this new purchase though, I'm hoping for a noticeable improvement in the responsiveness and accuracy.

My question is whether or not a mouse mat - presumably something like the Vengeance MM600 (on sale nearby - $29.54 after rebate, taxes inc) would be a worthwhile investment. It won't make the experience worse, I'm sure, but if it doesn't provide an improvement outside of e-peen or aesthetics over the desk, I'd just as soon not spend the money.

This is where it gets tough for me because I can't imagine the mats provide no benefit over a standard desk table, but I have a difficult time understanding what the tangible benefit is.

Help?

I currently have a RatPadz XT (won it in a contest) and a Mad Catz R.A.T.9 mouse. I really feel that the mouse does not track as well on the pad as it does on my woodgrain desk.

The mouse glides a lot smoother on a mouse mat than on the typical table. It can be a lot more consistent, damage the pads of the mouse less and generally improve the accuracy of your movements, assuming you have a mat that you can get on with.

In the case of the corsair M95 I doubt it matters, that is a ADNS 9800 so it jitters, has acceleration and Z axis issues and isn't really considered to be very good (used in a lot of so called gamer mice but its terrible for it).

With the firmware update it seems to be operating properly. I did some basic jitter tests and found no issues - it actually tracked surprisingly well. I haven't noticed any acceleration or Z axis issues either. It's a substantial upgrade over the mouse I was previously using, no question. So far I have nothing but positive things to say.

Edit: I should note, I didn't actually test for Z-axis issues, since it seems like such a miniscule non-issue. I can't imagine a reason why I would lift and drop my mouse in rapid succession.

I have to have a mouse mat for a bit of resistance. Don't like mousing on smooth surfaces. I've had good luck with steelseries QcK and Razer goliath. Thinking about trying a rosewill rimp next.

I went out got a Razer Exactmat off ebay. It is the greatest mousepad ever. I recommend getting one. Aluminem mousepads in general are absolutely the best mousepads for speed and control. I've used all the other types and they just don't compare. Aluminen allows you to have high control over high DPIs. I never move my cursor past where I want it to go at 3000 DPI. Its good for low dpi too. Finding the Razer Exactmat might be difficult. An entry level aluminem mousepad is the aluminen Rockfish gaming one at bestbuy for 20 dollars. Its practically the Razer exactmat. Don't buy one of those steelseries QcK for 10 dollars. The rock

Yes, I agree about the razer exactmat. Good stuff indeed.

However, I have had good experiences with this one.......Razer Destructer 2

Razer Goliathus Speed - Large or extended depending on what you want They are good quality pads with a stitched edge so it cant separate Its really the only thing from Razer that I've ever been happy with or that i can recommend from them heh heh Truly as high a quality pad as there is on the market and glides amazingly.

I also own a Mionix sargas 900 and while nice and big its already separating from the foam so id stay clear of it.
