Mouse Pointer Auto Selecting?

I got a laptop not long ago and I have noticed that when I leave my mouse pointer over anything it will automcaitcally do that function without me clicking it. Like if I leave it over the TURN OFF COMPUTER button for 2 seconds it brings up the options for turning it off. I hate that. How do I turn it off?

in windows xp

start - settings - control panel - mouse - Pointer Options tab "Snap to" make sure thats not checked on.

also if you have mouse software installed it could be in the software also.

Not checked... it's a synaptics touchpad v5.10 if that helps!

Disable "tap to click" in the touchpad options (the thing that makes it so you can tap the touchpad and have it count as a mouse click). Or learn to use a lighter touch with it.
