Moving Freecell

I am phasing out my old computer, starting a new one and trying to incorporate all my old info into the new installation. Virtually all has been transfered successfully except for one item. I am a Freecell addict and have logged many games on the old computer. Freecell maintains the full statistics of wins, losses and games played. I want to transfer this statistical data to the new installation but so far have been unsuccessful. So far I have tried deleting the new freecell installation from the new computer and copy/paste the freecell.exe from the old into the new. I am unsure where the statistical data is maintained, but it's apparently not in the freecell.exe file. Operating systems are both Win 98SE.

Can anyone help?

How to transfer stats from one computer to another:

MS FreeCell keeps its stats in the Windows registry, a central depository of program information. This can be edited using the application program REGEDIT.EXE which should be in your Windows directory. You might need to search for the FreeCell entries; mine are in:

My Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft Windows\CurrentVersion
\Applets\FreeCell.

If you want to transfer your stats from one computer to another, you can either write
down the (hexadecimal) values for losses, lost, streak, wins, won from your old registry and modify the values in your new registry to match them. In theory (I have never done this) you can also use the Export feature to copy the FreeCell branch of your old
registry to a file, then Import it into the new registry.

Back when I worked in HP tech support, and we had floor systems for troubleshooting, I would amaze my co-workers with my super low times in Minesweeper. It's sad that none of them figured out I was editing the registry. I always kept it slightly believable, so they always wondered how I could do the smallest puzzle in 4 seconds .

Thanks. I assumed it was in the registry but have been somewhat reluctant to screw with it. I'll give that a try.

In an allied question, there are 32000 possible games (combinations of card placements) and I have always taken it on faith that Freecell has been keeping track of the actual games won & lost by game number so that when allowing random selection of games, I don't play the same game more than once. In looking at the entries in the registry I'm not sure I see sufficient information to assure this is happening. Any understanding on this?

I don't think it keeps track, I think it picks random games... you might play the same game twice but with that many possibilities you will have played many games in between a repeat and you wouldn't recognize it or remember the winning moves... you'd never know you had played a duplicate.

Wow, this thread made my day. It might be the best question ever asked on AT.

But equally as important: What is your longest streak of wins? Mine is like 38, I'm sure there are people out there that just don't lose anymore.

Unfortunately, it looks like it doesn't keep track. I kind of wanted to know if I did all 32000 games but if it doesn't keep track, I sure don't want to. It seems that it would have been a pretty simple programming task to keep track.

So far I've won 22040, lost 4143 and have an 87 win streak. I've obvouisly been playing a long time but I would never know by looking if I had ever played a game before.
