MP3 Ripper

I need a prog to convert my CDs to MP3 format. Is MP3 format the way to go? Or should I use some other format?

Anyways - Winamp won't let me do it. I think Windows Media Player only does wma or wmv or whatever it is. So any suggestions would be appreciated.

BTW - what frequency should I encode at? THANKS!

Simple MP3

Go for at least 128kbps, 192 if you really want higher quality sound (and if your speakers are good enough to help you hear the difference - less static). 44.1kHz in either case.

For MP3 encoding, use EAC or CDex.

Will any of these programs download the Music Data and place them into the tags for me like Windows Media Player does for its wma files?

EAC and LAME puts the ID3 tags on the MP3s.

Each of those programs do the job nicely. I have found the UI of CDex a bit more friendly in the past.

For some reason - when I try out Lame/EAC - it keeps extracting it to wav even though I tell it MP3 format.
