well i've been playing around with my system, i decided to redo my tim solution, so i cleaned it off and then reapplied going off the arcticsilver instructions on the website a small bb size and then pressed the heatsink counterclockwise and then clockwise to have the tim in a nice circle.

i have noticed TEN DEGREES CELSIUS difference.. i was idling @ 42-44 which isnt horrible, but now im doing in both bios and mbm5 31-32 celsius

well my first oc was a fairly decent start, passed 6hrs of prime95 and seemed stable

then i decided to try and get higher, tried to do some research on all the great forum sites, but really dont see that much info inregards to the actual settings done in an msi neo2 plat board with a 3500+

well i set my multiplier to 11, my vcore to 1.525, my ratio to 4x and my fsb/htt freq to 240

ram is ocz el plat rev2, running dual, cas is 2.5-3-3-7, pretty lose timing i think i might be able to bump that up but what im first trying to accomplish is the max STABLE cpu core speed, 2.64 aint bad, i'd be interested to know what other people have achieved with AIR cooling on the same setup or with the same 3500+ winchester chip, thanks

How long have you primed 2700mhz for???

I got it to work but I needed 1.63v (10% over vid) to achieve it and to pass 4 hours of prime....

NIce OC...

Thinking about where my level crossed 1.5v is hard cause I actually never saw that one come up using the % method....

BUt I am 6 hr stable rigt now at 2600mhz (9x289) with cas 2,3,3,8,1t (133divider)....I did this with 1.47v...3.3% over vud setting

Then it needed 1.55v (may have not needed it all but that is the voltage it read with 5% over vid setting) at 2655mhz (9x295)

Then it needed 1.57v (8.3% over vid) at (9x298)

Needs 1.63v or slightly less but more then 1.57v to do 2700mhz

It goes fast about .15v in 100mhz or about 11 fsb....

I would say you have a shot at 2.8ghz with 1.63v like my 2.7ghz....

Rebooting?? Sounds like power supply or heat....Usually when I have not enough vcore it will just freeze or if my ram timings are to aggressive it will freeze...

However in this amd quest I usually post on everything I have tried or not even post to bios...

Good luck I hope you get 2.8ghz...

thanks, i have an ocz powerstream 470, highest i can get the vcore is 1.55 w/ setting a 5.0% over VID, w/o going in the "red"

Going in the red is not all that bad...Most follow a 10% max overvolt rule and for the most part I have never seen anybody fry a chip with that limit followed....If you can't post into windows at 1.55v then I doubt even 1.63v will be prime95 6hr plus stable.

Is there something else holding you back cause 2650's at 1.5v still is pretty damn good...if it was ture prime stable..

potentially, i dont know enough to know what i might be doing "wrong" right now im just trying to see what the max core speed of this cpu is, i dont intend to run it at the very max, i dont consider it even worth mentioning if i cant boot windows, so that's kind of my litmus test, if i can boot windows and execute prime95/cpuz and not have it reboot then i consider that "a speed that could be topped potentially"

once i find the max ill then go to a rating where im not having to over volt any of my hardware, like you said 1.5v @ 2.7 is nice; i wanna see if this cpu can hit 2.8 if i can hit that ill be happy, figure i learned a few things, and then clock it down to 2.6-2.7

well i just figured out some settings to hit 2804! with 267 ddr clock, using the 10% over VID and memory voltage of 2.85

vcore is holding around 1.63, in all my reading i've read never go above 1.65 so seems to be at the very edge of the acceptable range but still in acceptable limits

in bios the cpu tep is 42C versus my normal 32-34, so it's definitely higher but still not bad

gonna see if windows boots now
