i have the MSI K7N420D nForce Pro mobo, an i have installed the add-on CNR card you can get which enables the 6-channel audio. I have logitech SR30 speakers, which require the subwoofer to be connected to the front & rear out audio jacks. The rear audio is located on the CNR add-on card, which i cannot get to work. (doh)

the JBAT wire has been connected, and if you look in the manual, it says to enable both front+rear audio a certain jumper must be shorted. when doing this, there is NO sound, from front or rear speakers. Wen it is in the other position for just front, the front speakers do indeed work.

has anyone else had that prob? ne1 know of a fix or am i doing something wrong?

plz help

thkz.

I really don't know that much about this board or those speakers , but I would deffinitely endeavour to find out why you can't get the CNR card to work correctly .

It's possible you need this card working to resolve your other problems.

Does the card show up in your device manager correctly without any errors pending ?

My situation is that I just can't get the CNR to work, it seems... The JBAT jumpers are shorted, so according to the manual I should have rear audio but I'm not.

I tried updating the system sound drivers from MSI and playing with the Multimedia control panel but nothing works (actually it did work for like a minute, but when I changed song in Winamp it stopped working.... weird, eh?). So I just unplugged the rear input on my subwoofer (I have Cambridge Soundworks 4.1) and now it just splits the front channel to all 4 satellite speakers. I've also tried to plug just the front input into the CNR rear-out but nothing came out.

Ibmcleod, you might have a defective board since you said you couldn't even get sound when the 4 pins on JBAT are shorted?

The same problem reported by many other users was fixed with a BIOS update. The most current is 2.4.

I wonder what happens if you plug different speakers into the front and rear ports...?

All that is required to install the CNR card is to install it and reboot. No drivers necessary, however download the latest motherboard drivers here in order to use the NVA panel.

Once you get that installed, double click the NVA icon in the systen tray and select 4 speakers or 5.1 speakers on the speakers tab. Winamp will not play surround files, and neither will MP3s that are in stereo will output to all 4 speakers. I believe there is a plugin somewhere so winamp will output to all speakers but it will still only be in stereo.

In order to truly play a surround file, you will need to use windows media player, which supports 6 channels. Download a six channel test here and play it in WMP. You'll hear a guy say the name of the speaker in each speaker (ie: left in the left speaker, surround left in the rear speaker, etc.). Remember that the blue jack on the CNR is sub/center and the black is rear left/right.
