MSI NX6600GT-VTD128 6600GT AGP Questions

I haven't upgraded my VGA card since 2003, and so my current card is way outdated. I've got about $200 to spend, and right now the card I'm going for is the 6600GT AGP. The MSI 6600GT, to be exact. At newegg it's $156 after rebates. And I've got a couple of questions:

1. 1. My mobo has a 4X/8X AGP slot, but it states not to use a 3.3v AGP card in the slot, only 1.5v...so will the 6600GT run on it without screwing it up? Basically...is it 1.5V or 3.3V?

1. 2. I know that the 6600GT AGP needs extra juice from the PSU because the AGP slot is not enough. Namely from the +12V rail. I have a 500 watt PSU with 15 amps on the +12V rail. Will it be enough?

X800 vs 6600GT-OC

That may be true, but I need an AGP card, X800's don't come in AGP. Therefore I am still with the 6600GT , which means I am still looking for answers to my questions.

to actually answer your question I got this quote from the MSI site

" Many of the newer chipsets will not support 3.3v AGP cards, only 1.5v AGP cards can be used on many of the P4 chipsets."

this seems to mean that the 1.5v AGP cards are actually a newer tech than the 3.3v ones, meaning that anything comeing out now will be 1.5v.

a 3.3v wont fit in a 1.5v socket too so there is no risk of messin it up if it is not the right one.

Id personally want more amps but it should still work. Ive heard of cheap PSUs buring out 6600gts actually so you might want to look more into that.

I would also look at the regular PNY 6800 OEM at newegg, those cost less without any rebate and will perform better, although PNY is not as good a company as MSI.

I have that video card and the fan doesn't make a high pitched noise and is very quiet. Please supply proof that the video card does what you say?
