Hey guys,

I said what the heck. If might be a "limited time" offer like the Mwave deal in early november. I put my order in Saturday night and just got my confermation about an hour ago. I will post the results when the board arrives on Tuesday.

Although, I have a weary feeling about this company(OpenLinx)...the have the "All sales are Final" sign out and state that they will only return a MOBO if it is defective :-( Well, I guess I will have to pull out the pliers and do some "shipping damage" if they send me a K7T Pro

Jimmy

OH yeah...It did say K7T Pro2-A ....SO I got my fingers crossed for the ATA 100 Support!

I received an email from them this morning verifying that it is indeed the Pro2-a with the 686B chipset. However, the site has been hammered this morning and the page for the MB no longer appears available.

I called this morning and was told that it is indeed the PRO2 A. They are out of stock (guess I should have ordered before posting hehe) anyway they are expecting more in today.

This does indeed sound like a mom and pop shop, but that's ok

If they're shippin Pro2a's then they're our HERO!

I confirmed with Helen who said John was out
that this was in fact the Pro2a and not just the pro
(although I'd have taken that one)

She said it stated on the box ata100 suppt
which confirms it's not a mismark like a few
of the pro2's turned out to be.

She said they still had some as of 2:00pm cst
and I ordered one and got an invoice number
immediately.

She said it would ship out today.

Jeez, I can hardly contain myself.......

I'm anxious to stack it against the Epox 8KTA2 I just got
and keep the one I like the best.

Cool!!, I just talked to Helen and she said that my Pro2-A is offically shipped and I will have tracking numbers with in the next couple of hours! Yes, they are nice people...But their return policy does scare me a bit. Oh well, you have to dive in sometimes...

OD3, thx for the number....it's pretty silly of the site not to put it on the front page.

Penchie, good to see that you are making the smart choice to buy now instead of waiting like the Mwave thing....hopefully by Wednesday, we will all be zippin away at ATA100 with our chips OC'ed to the max

Jimmy

PS....I wonder how this place got Pro2-A's? I talked to Henry Kuo lst week and he was skeptical that MSI had finished the Pro2-A completly. In fact, he was down at Comdex and they were only demoing the Pro2 as their "newest" board. I guess we'll see!!!

I just spoke with someone at OpenLinx. He said that is says Pro2-A on the box, and Pro2 is silkscreened on the board between the slots and that it has a 100 controller sticker near one of the chips (southbridge maybe??).

I do not like their return policy though. So I called KDComputers and was informed that they were expecting MSI K7T Pro2-A boards in on Wednesday (22Nov200). I think I'll wait 48 hours, and get a decent return policy.

I just called to confirm if they had got the 2A back in. He said yes and that my order was being shipped today.

Fire up the coffee pot and let's have some fun.

Oh Frijoles!

This better not be 'too good to be true'. I spoke with Helen as well and she said it had ATA-100 on the box, etc, so I am hoping that it is the real deal. If not...no big loss as I will only ne losing ATA-100 (though that is the reason I bought this bopard -> ATA100 on ASUS and ABIT is not as smooth as I would have hoped).

Fingers crossed...

Jeez, I was all set to buy either the ASUS A7V or the Abit KT7 and now this comes along and I'm not sure any more. I even posted a question asking which one I should get mythread. Now I've read some discussions and it sounds like the A7V and KT7 can be a little unstable at times and that they have compatability problems. This is my first time building a machine so I want something that isn't going to give me too much trouble. This board sounds rock solid from the reviews, but the performance of it seems to be a concern. Check out this review at
Sharkys

Any thoughts? (thx for your input Penchie, it lead me here)

I have built Abit KT7: stability probs (random lockups & freezes)
I have built Abit KT7-Raid: stability problems (random lockups, freezes, & data corruption)
I have built Asus A7V: Stable at first, became unstable afetr 3 months with no overclocking (data corruption and multiple delays/freezes)

I have bulit upwards of 25 boxes thus far so I feel like I know what I doing. I did my research, added all of the right drivers and fixes and still no dice.

Don't get me wrong, these boards can be set stable if you have the patience and experience and are not psuhing them balls-to-the-wall style.

However, with this being your first build, you should be concerned with simplicity & STABILITY. You have no choice then but an MSI K7T Pro or MSI K7T Pro2 or MSI K7T Pro2-A. Hell, even Anand runs for of his servers off of the MSI K7T Pro2 motherbaords (see his review). The performance of the Pro2 and Pro2-A is almost equal that of Abit and Asus (SMALL % diff), but you are getting unparalled stability in exchange. FWIW: I am building my next, personal box off of the MSI K7T Pro2-A which I just orederd this afternoon from OpenLinx.

Thx a lot for your insight, it's reasurring to know that you've put together a few systems and have some experience. After everyones recommendations, I'm going to go ahead and get the MSI PRO2, it sounds like a great board. Thx again.

Jeez,

Just got my tracking number for the Pro2a board I ordered with Helen today.

That's one hurdle to go, and that's openin it and seein if it is indeed
the pro2a

At 129 bux, it'll be sweet.

Just on the odd chance it's not, I screenshot the page advertising
it on their website and will forward it to anyone who needs it
just in case they made an oversight, but wanna stick to their
stringent return policy.

thanks

OD3 I've had got an Asus A7V under the hood at the moment. It's been in there for about 2 months or less I think and just recently it started freezing on me. I did reinstalls and tried different drivers and everything and it still kept freezing on me. I then took it back to the supplier and got him to figure it out. He did a lot of testing on it with a program called WinTACH that made it crash every single time. He concluded it was the video card but even with the new video card it still crashes WinTACH. At one point when i turned it on and it tried to go to windows 98se the screen started filling with IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII I then did a full fdisk and deletion of all partitions (lost all my mp3 and everything *deep sigh*) and recreate the partitions using FDISK and reinstalled. But since I received it back I went to an all day LAN and was playing 3D games all day.

I am concerned though that you say this board appeared stable then after 2 months falls over with random crashes. This is what appeared to happen to me. Do you have any idea what the cause might be? I'm thinking of calling up the supplier and trading it in for the MSI-KT7 Pro2.

Any information would be great as it's running fine now but I'm afraid for how long. Is it going to be a cycle where every 2 months I'll have to delete everything off it and start again. I seriously hope not. :disgust:

DOOPYLOOPY, I have not been able to pinpoint the problem yet. I have tried multiple videocards with no difference. It freezes with everything from a VOODOO 3 1000 16MB upto 64MB GeForce! This is my primary WORK box so no games and no overclocking either. It has been on 24/7 since I built it, except fot the reboots when doing software installs or hardwrae swaps.

THere just seems to be something inherently wrong with this board that manifests itself at somepoints. My inabilkity to pinpoint the problem is what is most frustrating. My supplier is several states away and I don;'tt ffel like dealing with their restock fees and having them test it to say it is fine. I will recycle this board at somepoint and build my new personal box around the MSI K7T Pro2A.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I ordered one at atacom.
They closed the store, so I had to order online. I guess it'll be shipped next week:frown:, and I'm 3k miles away. With ground shipping it's gonna take 2 weeks from now.
By the way, it's cheaper 10 bucks but shipping is 10 bucks more than openlinx.
