MSN messanger and Linksys Router

I'm trying to transfer files trough MSN Messanger and it doesn't work. I'm using a Linksys DSL router. I set the DMZ host to my IP and set all ports forward to my IP and still doesn't work. Any idea?

do what I tell everyone who has trouble sending files with the big IM clients: try BitWise Chat, which not only seems to be much better about sending files, but also compresses and encrypts them for you on the fly.

There's a couple more ports (don't remember off the top of my head, sorry) that you'll have to open. In fact there is one port to open for each simulaneous transfer that you want to do. I'm almost positive you'll find this info in the MSN messenger help files. Just open help in the messenger and search for "port" or "firewall" and you should find it.

Be advised: I *think* you can get file transfers to work through the linksys but some more advanced stuff like remote assistance, voice/video chat and some others simply wont work without a UPnP enabled router.

If you know the ports, and can forward them, it will work. I am using a freebsd box with IPFW, which is about as far from UPnP as you can get, LOL!!!!
It all works for me. 1863 for messenger basic connection, and look up the rest of the stuff here.
