MTV and Rap Videos

I was finishing up moving out of my apt and I just had my TV left and I wanted some tunes. So I thought oh MTV will surely have some videos on. Well they did but it was ALL R&B and Rap, when did they stop playing rock videos? I know they mostly do their stupid Real World/Road Rules game shows instead of videos but when they do play videos why is it always either Rap or R&B?

On a side note what is up with these Rap videos? Puffy you are not a "Badboy" you made your money by stealing err ah "sampling" other people's music. If I remember it correctly the dumb ass Vanillia Ice did that and rightly got busted for it. Then all these wannabe's driving Prosche's and Lamborgini's(sp) acting like they are badass thugs. I hope you are saving some of that money you are making if not you are going be next to one of the Jackson's in the dumpster of obsucrity in a year or two.

MTV and VH1 have both resorted to playing rock videos late at night. It's a shame, too. That's the only decent stuff that they play, too. I can't stand to watch shows like TRL anymore because all they show is manufactured pop and rap. Ugh.

He is one of the many examples of the fact that you do not need any talent to make alot of money in the music industry. Other examples Britney(although is is VERY hot) all the boy bands, Moby, and last but far from least Ricky Martin.

They play what the audience likes to watch. And right now, the young crowd is more shifted towards R&B and Rap. If you don't like it, there's always the remote for you to use

I personally stopped watching MTV a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng time ago. The last video I remember watching on MTV was California Love (tell's you how long ago that was, and it's probably one of the FEW rap songs that I actually like).

In fact, I've missed out on most music videos for the past 6 or 7 years. I listen to all my music on either CD's, MP3's, or on the radio. The actual "video" is unneeded filler w/lip syncing artists to me.

A recent one that I love to listen to is Ludacris- Saturday (ooohh oooooh)

A few years ago, there was not a rock video in sight. Hell, there was baerly a video in sight. Now, theres still 95% barely music related crap, but the 5% of videos are all rap. Unfortunately, i dont get Much Music or the BOX or any music channel, so i am generally skrewed.

What is their obsession with showing off their wealth while claiming to still be ghetto. The one i hate the most is Jay Z. He has to be the most pompus asshole ever. Eminem and NERD (and NERD only to a certain point) are the only things keeping me from hating rap completely.

Aye, rap has gone down the drain lately. I agree with NFS4, one of the last cool videos was from the whole Dre/Snoop/Tupac/Biggy days, when songs like California Love ruled the rap charts. Nowadays, all rappers sing about is nonsense. Examples: LUDACRIS!! He's the PRIME frikken example. He sings about the most retarded things, how could people possibly stomach that stupid crap?

Heh I love Ludacris...mainly because he does rap about a lot of nonsense. Gotta love eminem too, seeing as how I almost always laugh when I hear his stuff. Beyond that, there aren't too many rappers out nowadays that I like. I'll never, EVER like or listen to Jay-Z or Puffy. DMX is still a favorite, as is Nelly. And then there's the occassional one-hit wonder like petey pablo.

However, I think the reason most of em talk about their money is that they (well, some anyways) grew up without it. You might say, "So what?!" but I can tell you right now that if someone gave me $5 mil, I'd be singing about it for a long, long time. It's what people like to hear and see, and so the artists keep putting it out there. Whenever the taste shifts back towards gangster rap, or forward to whatever may come next, then the artists will start harping on that.

MTV is suck . I do like Snoop,Dre,and some of the rap guys . I would really prefer to hear Slayer,Danzig,Pantera and stuff like that all day on MTV.

mtv 2 is pretty damn decent, except when they have the rap countdown, but mostly you can count on mtv2 to play tons of rock/alt vids.

Agreed, MTV2 is pretty cool. I usually have a list of songs to download that i find out about from mtv2.

MTv itself sucks its own over-inflated testicles. Crap rap inviting you into its world with imagery such as a 22lb ass, gold plated tubs, a $300k car they drive while smoking pot, and bling bling ice ice smack shake rump holla. Immediately followed by a "wholesome" young girl singing about being your slave while sweating in a thong next to an orgy-like mob whom are all gay yet trying to convince you otherwise, yet still somehow convey the message of saving yourself for marriage according to the lyrics/interviews.

But it's just another phase...just like fashion, pop culture can't stand itself for more then a single serving at a time.

How has it become an accepted mainstream trend to pretend that you have lived the life experiences of another, unfortunate race - to effectively walk around like clowns, faking speech impediments and ignorance? How has it become acceptable to act like the worst-off in our society - to act like those who are fatherless, cultureless, and ambitiousless, and morally bankrupt?

No it isn't. Its the beginning of a descent through a downward spiral. America is eating itself alive.
