So..my old R9 280 died and I decided to upgrade to a GTX 1080. I currently have 4 monitors requiring 5 display outputs: a Dell UP2715K (2x DP), Dell U2711 (1x DP), HP LP2475w connected to a receiver for audio (1x HDMI) and a trusty old 15" (1x VGA). During my 280 times I borrowed my friend's discarded 7970 to power all of the displays ( I use the PC for work during the day and gaming at night), but now I'm stuck with only 3 displays which isn't bad but I miss my 4th to display things like steam chats, task manager and clock.
I have an old GTX 280 which is still functioning lying around, I tried using it in conjunction with the GTX 1080 but after many hours of trying I just couldn't get them to work together (the MS basic display driver would not work together with my rel 376.33 driver, which does not support gtx 280).
Does anyone know how to either (a) get the GTX 280 to work in my current environment, or (b) install both AMD and nV drivers together so that I can use the 7970 (I tried but it wouldn't work - the AMD installer somehow would not detect the 7970 even though it is plugged in)...? Or should I just suck it up and pay the AU$50 to get a GT710?
TIA
