Hi all,
Right now I've got a 17" NEC monitor plugged into the docking station on my Sony VAIO SZ110 notebook, and I'm running dual screens on Fedora 8 -- one external monitor, the other the screen of the actual notebook.
I'm moving from a dorm on-campus (I'm a starving college student) to an apartment in about a month, and I'm thinking of getting a new desktop computer and another screen to run dual 17" screens. Dual screen computing is essential for me -- I'm an engineering major who needs to be able to run dual screens to do CAD work.
I'm weary of getting/building a desktop computer because I won't be able to bring it to campus with me -- I'd have a notebook *and* and a desktop, and it's much more hassle than it's worth to constantly keep the two home folders in sync (I guess I could write a bash or Perl script or something but I'd rather not do that).
Does anyone know if my laptop is able to run multiple external monitors? On the docking station there is both a VGA-out and DVI-out port. I have no idea if these can run at the same time, and I don't have the means to get a DVI-output screen right now. Right now my external monitor is using the VGA port. (This may or may not be important, but on the computer itself, when docked, there is a piece of plastic physically blocking the VGA port on the notebook. There is no DVI port on the notebook.)
If not, are there any notebooks out there capable of running multiple external monitors? Please post price and specs if you don't mind.
Thanks for all the help! Your input will save me much time (and hopefully headache).
