Manual steering is dreadful when you have 8inch wide wheels fitted like my falcon, it has 15x8 ford 12 slotters fitted with 235x50xr15 tyres, it can be a real pig of a thing to park, it was ok when i first got it mainly because of the 14x5.5inch standard wheels, kinda like a very vague power steering.
As soon as i can find all the bits i'm going to adapt my ford to Power steering or try and adapt a later model ford unit to fit, I have been told that the PS and the whole double wishbone suspension from an 86 falcon is almost a bolt in fit and combined with all the front suspension bit should knock about 3 and half metres out of the turning circle, and give a much more percise and responsive feel..which should be much better than the vague at high speed, tankish at low speed steering that the car currently has.

On the Camaro it had 255/60/r15 rear,215/70/r15 front, 15x8 rear wheels,15x7 front.

The Valiant has 14x5.5 rims,with 205/70/r14 on it now;
it came with 7.00x13 new.

I am considering disc brakes for the front of the Valiant,as with the V8 it moves along
pretty good,especially with the dual exhaust,cam,4bbl,etc.
I rebuilt a 318 and put that in,took the 273 out last year.
45 more cubic inches.,and it looks just like the 273.

Aghhh drums all round on a V8..thats scary stuff, luckly for australians all V8 released from 1964 (the first year V8's were sold in locally produced cars..valiant VIP)onwards where required to have discs on the front as a minimum saftey feature.
I have driven a few early falcon 6 cylinders fitted with drums all round and found them to be very scary under brakes, reasonable on the first application, not much after wards. my 1978 Falcon was fitted with 4 wheel discs stardard, they work pretty good, and I'm gunna need them once I fit the engine in later this week. an upgrade from a 4.1litre six to a 5.8litre 4bbl V8 should test the brakes good and proper now.

ah heck, I had a rare Ford superbird sedan about 8 years ago that I wrote off and almost myself as well, it was pretty cool, it had a 351 and a toploader 4spd. pity about inexperience and attemped drifts..in to trees on the side of the road.

The Mustang 5.0 era started in 1979 with the Foxstang, unfortunately in 80 and 81 the 302 was replaced with the 255 :disgust:, the 302 returned in 1982 as the GT. The Cobra pak of 1979-81 looked pretty snazzy though, especially with those TRX wheels.

the mustang cobra pack was pretty tame compared to the aussie 1978 Ford XC Falcon Cobra Hardtop, which where availible in 351 or 302 with 4spd manual or 3sp auto, they look pretty cool and ran pretty hard at Bathurst in the ATCC.
While the road cars where lacking in straight line grunt the 11 Bathurst units produced over 470hp and had a top speed in excess of 175mph.
only 400 road cars where produced, making them pretty rare.

I first saw a maverick grapper late last year, it was featured in the second issue of Street Machines FORDS magazine, they are a very sexy little coupe, pity there is only about 10 or 15 in australia.
the chev monza is fairly well known in australia..thanks to racing legend Allan Moffat how raced them in the late 70's and early 80's in the ATCC.
an opel version was supposed to become the two door GMH Commodore during the early 80's as the two cars a very similar in the front sheet metal design and the engine bay was big enougth to fit the GMH inline 6's and V8's..pity about the beancounters, they kill off so many good ideas, it would have looked like a two door version of the 1984 VK commodore SS that i featured earlier in this thread.

My 1984 GMC Conversion van..................... Now that it has one of my spare Buick '70 455 stage 1 racing motors in it, instead of the lame 305 it came with. Only around 480hp, (was 365hp/510lbs stock), but it is sweet blowing the doors off stangs with a huge old van. I've installed thes in many different GM model cars, and next project is to put one in the wifes '89 Mustang. (hopefully this thread will steer me towards a SP tranny. PM me please!)

Not sure, GM were doing some odd shifters at that time, like the 4+3 manual overdrive box on the 1984 Corvette. I think it was to overcome the fact that they didn't have any conventional 5 speeds.
Th Avanti with V8 Paxton blower from the factory was very hot, and the same engine in the Studebaker Lark was a great street sleeper.

In the 70s AMC offered an "X" package on most of their cars, that was neat looking. I thought the Matador coupe didn't look that bad and at least it still offered a 360 & 401 4 bbl.
