If I remember correctly, Sony was either awarded with or applied for a patent on a theoretical system describing the influence of neural pathways to create audiovisual (and presumably tactile and olfactory) sensations. I'm sure the system is still quite far off, but the thought of it is pretty fascinating. Imagine experiencing something that is absolutely fake and that you perceive as absolutely real at the same time. Now THAT will be amazing.

although rumble and other force-feedback would definitely add the 'feeling' into the overall audio/video experience

The feeling you get when you're in your dreams, falling into an endless pit. The feeling you get when you're "falling" is awesome and scary at the same time. Or the feeling you get when you feel light headed and wobbly. These feelings come from you, yet you cannot recreate it intentionally.

What I'd like to experience, as many as I would also wonder, is the feeling one gets when he's in an accident and he loses a finger, or a limb. The thought of having a piece of your body ripped apart is unthinkable to how one might feel at that given moment. Or the feeling of being shot.

I can see that in some sort of a Terminator 2 3D theater or Mummy-the-ride copy-cats that when somebody gets shot that properly placed sprinklers would spray the audience (with water of course) at the exact time to simulate the gore.
