Must buy 2nd CPU from Dell?

Hi.

I will order two Dell PowerEdge Server for my company next week.
I need to buy Dual PIII for both of them.

My question is that Do I have to buy with Dual CPU when I order?
Or can I add the second CPU later and save some money?

Dell chagre too much for '2ND Processor' 1.13GHZ/512K Cache [add $799]

If I add the second CPU by myself, Will I loose warranty?

Please give me some advise.

First, a rule of thumb, if your company is paying for it, go Dell/Compaq/Whatever all the way.

I dont know what Dell's warranty says about upgrading the CPU yourself, but I'd guess that will void the warranty.

Anyways, just get it from Dell, if anything breaks down, your ass will be safe, but if you start picking stuff from your local shop, you might just get in trouble, not worth it.

Holy cow! Lowest price on pricewatch is 226.00. I put a 2nd CPU in my dell server at work, however the warranty
was up. I cant see paying that much for a cpu. You'd be better off finding someone who sells guarranted CPUS
for 300.00 less and use those.

I'd stick with buying everything from Dell just for political reasons of nothing else.

Sorta like the difference between building the server yourself and buying it from Dell, the old "noone ever got fired for buying Dell/Compaq/IBM" deal.
