Now, mind you, MW2 is still damn fun. I had a blast playing it a few months ago on the 360, but I couldn't care less about the game any more. Why? Hackers. Maybe it's not a big problem anymore, but I've given up now, and am enjoying BC2 on the PC.

I don't see why there's all of this hate for MW2. I played CoD 4 once and hated it, I played CoD World War once and hated it, but I really enjoy the hell out of MW2. It's a fun tactical shooter.

Besides, I don't know if I can ever forgive Dice for 2142.

What are you talking about?

If you shoot a guy at close range when firing from the hip, you will go through at least one mag trying to kill him. In COD it was just an accuracy penalty, but in BF BC2 it's both a accuracy and damage penalty.

Seriously a waste of money. I never told any friends it was worth $60. If this game was $40 and had dedicated servers, it would be a great game.

Sadly I can't get my money back. IW net sucks something major, no dedicated servers is a failure and this map pack is very dumb. Don't spend $15 on this map pack, use that cash and go buy an indie game or something.

When IW net works, it seems to work pretty well. I'd say the large majority of MW2 games I've played (and I'm level 130-something) have been fine as far as connectivity goes.

When it fails though... Yesterday my buddy and I got into a game which was apparently filled with people from Russia. So 10 of them, two of us. The lag was stunning.

I have over 120 hours into MW2, maybe one out of every 30 matches is laggy. Overall the IW.net experience is one of the games greatest strengths.

Let it be noted I have a 35MB down / 5MB up connection which means I'm often the host and even when I'm not, I still have a pretty awesome connection so the lag is not noticeable. Others may have a very different experience.

Others may have a very different experience.
Which I think is at the root of the frustration that those "others" have with the forced matchmaking system. They don't want the experience to be that variable and be completely out of their control. They want to be able to find a setup that works for them and be able to return to it again and again, not be randomly matched up with connections that might be good, might be crappy. Hence the complaints about IW.net. "YMMV" just shouldn't be something players have to deal with if they don't want to (you, obviously, seem to be fine with "YMMV").

Disclaimer: had several favorite servers in CoD4, did not try MW2.

Dragon Age is another example--no online multiplayer (ala one of its predecessors, Neverwinter Nights), no custom content.
I have a feeling I have made this exact same reply to you before, but Dragon Age is a successor to BG1/BG2 not NWN. The emphasis is on heavily scripted dialogue and plot w/ cutscenes, environments are manually designed for each area, and companion characters and dialogue is a major focus.

NWN was fundamentally about the toolset developed for it and the module based content was friendly for user development at the expense of many of those earlier areas of emphasis. The plot was still reasonably good but it felt like playing a D&D game with a bunch of interchangeable set pieces and monsters (not a bad thing). Online was a necessity for that format.

Recognizing that we exist in a world with scarcity, the addition of multiplayer to DA and ME1/ME2 would both have made them significantly weaker singleplayer games. I enjoyed both of them more for being successors to BG/KOTOR respectively then I would have enjoyed a NWN3.

I don't see why there's all of this hate for MW2. I played CoD 4 once and hated it, I played CoD World War once and hated it, but I really enjoy the hell out of MW2. It's a fun tactical shooter.
Apparently we're all fed up with company_name1 because they have the nerve to sell product_title1 for product_price1, when obviously it should be product_price2. Things have gotten so heated that some posters have even hinted that company_name1 may only be selling product_title1 to earn a profit!

I can understand that. This is the first matchmaking system of its kind that I've ever used (I don't play that many games), and it needs some work, but it's not terrible. They do need to make some adjustments though.

The horror! Even if you hate MW2 and hate the way EA/Activision/etc are doing things, understand that like good music, good PC games will never go away. They might get harder to find for a while, but they will never go away. If there's a market for something, people will go after it.

So what does everyone think? I'm honestly unimpressed. It seems like the lag and other issues got worse after the stimulus pack, and the maps all suck.

someone bought the map pack?
Please. However you feel about MW2 and the map pack, obviously it was going to sell and is. It's been #1 on the Steam top sellers and still is.

Personally I think it's a little too expensive for 3 new maps. Also I still don't see any kind of recent support from IW in the form of patches for bugs, exploits, and balance. If they actually show they're going to support the game, and there is a price drop, I'll probably pick it up.

CoD 4: 4 new maps with Patch 1.6
MW2@ 5 new maps $ 15 ...

not really fair.

It wouldn't be so bad if they had fixed any of the issues, or if the maps were really stellar. The fact that they aren't integrated in or at least that you can't choose the game mode on them also pisses me off.

Meanwhile IW is claiming that the only reason why they made IWnet is for easy usage for all ages and groups and sales are so tremendous they have no reason to think IWnet is in anyway hindering the fun.

We are just a group of small haters to them so let it be. Let the dipships forecast for huge sales in MW 3 and have it fall straight onto their faces when they can't even cover the period costs for SG&A expenses.
