I just bought this game for my wife and everytime I load it up it crashes. The only way she can play it is if I start it from the run command with the -nosound swith activated. I have installed diamonds drivers as well as the referenced drivers from aureal without any luck. Does anyone else have this trouble?

Sys specs
566 celery 0/C 850
Abit Bh6
Voodoo 3500
MX300
Linksys NIC
Mylex SCSI card
Plextor drives
WD HD 27 gig
Thanks

Sorry man, but TheSims seems to work just fine with my MX300 (using the latest reference drivers).

did you get the newest patch for the sims yet?

p.s. dont even bother with asking maxis about help with their game as i did so and they would not help at all, and when i finally did get help out of the middle of nowhere after i gave up on the game, they sent some info that didn't help me at all either. But i am not sure if my problem applies to you because i have been told that my problem was a coppermine sound blaster error that i fixed when i updated drivers

the sims works with my mx300.

try dropping your clock speed, or REM out the dos lines for the mx300 (solved a lot of problems i had when i first got it)

remmed out the dos line and lowered to 566....still gets to main screen and dumps...actually it won't even play the intro. It stutters to a halt while the house is building. Any other ideas?

I'm not sure if you want to try this but it worked for me. The game kept closing back out to desktop whenever it got the the neighborhood screen. I realized it crashed whenever it tried to play music in the game. I modified a file called simsound.HIT which is in the SoundData folder in the Sims directory which took out the music and it worked fine after that. If you want to try it I suggest you backup a copy of the simsound.HIT file and the modify as following:

Open up simsound.HIT with wordpad and remove lines 20, 21, 22, and 23. These lines look similar in wordpad...you should be able to read then number 5 in the beginning of the string and 3 towards the end. Save the file over the original (make sure you save it or rename it as simsound.HIT because wordpad puts a .txt after saving). Load up the game and you should have all sound effects minus the music.

If you want you can email me and I will send you a copy of my modified file. Hope it works out for you.

i found most of my problems with the MX 300 came from either

a) Using the cruddy Diamond Drivers
b) not 100% removing the cruddy drivers before installing the reference drivers.

Ever since i reformatted with no trace of the diamond drivers (extreme i know) i havent had a single sound card problem

Editing the sound.hit file as bannor11 suggested worked. I loaded the
2048 drivers already with the same results as all the others. I may try the 2041 WHQL drivers just to see what happens...Thanks again bannor for the heads up.

Glad to be of service. My g/f is addicted to the game so I had to get it working somehow. A lot of people are having the same problem too. I'm sure another patch is due for the game sometime. Until then...better having some sound than no sound at all. Enjoy.

That's funny that you say alot of people are having the same trouble. The customer support acted like I was the only one. LOL

had no problem with the retail version of sims and the retail mx300 driver (on the disk). Then again I only played it for a couple of hours before deciding it wasnt my cup of tea.
