primary, sorry for my lack of English, I'm french

So, there is the "problem" :

-Intel claims HT will be supported on 845g on rev B of the chipset.

-Asus said to a french web site the P4b533-VT they send to them for a review support HT because the i845g on it is a rev A1 of the chipset (all the 845g boards tested by this site before are A0 stepping).

So tonight I take my screwdriver and look my chipset on my p4b533-v (board rev1.01): I've got an A1 chip \o/

hum hum, I fired up my computer, lauch WCPUID and *ouch* :
Look at this pic ! (WCPUID)

Look at this pic ! (CPU-Z)

So, which I could believe ?
Asus, and the "A1 chipset supports HT"
Intel, and the "only B stepping"
or WCPUID ? (a bug in the prog ? Anybody here with a 845g A0 step to see what wcpuid says ?)

CPU-Z (really better than wcpuid I think) report the same thing : HT ready.

I had the pic in the first post

Hmmn... On my BG7 CPU-Z says also that the chipset is A1 stepping and HT is supported?

hum, it's totally different than all the other web sites say :/

(and the initial 845g rev IS a0, a1 was released after the a0 stepping (after all, it's logic ))

Add the 845E to the club, CPU Z says that my ABit BD7II-RAID supports H.T.
The chipset stepping is E0 .

The problem is that the plain "supports HT" statement with WCPUID or CPU-Z isn't adequate. It's really up to motherboard manufacturer will they release a BIOS update with HyperThreading support.

My EPoX 4G4A+ uses Stepping A1 and both programs report that HT is supported. However, I sent an email to EPoX regarding the HT matter and they very clearly stated that the 4G4A series will not support HT. I gather that they aren't going to release a HT-enabled BIOS update anytime soon

Damn, damn and damn. If I only would have known this a month ago when I purchased the motherboard :|

About HT

after a lot of invetigation, it seems ALL CPU P4 Northwood says "HT Ready" on 850,850E,845D,E,G,PE, and SiS645,645dx and 648 (even with a "non HT bios" for those who officialy support HT). More, Willamette CPU reports "HT enabled" in cpuid too !

the information read by CPU-Z or WCPUID doesn't come from the chipset but from the CPU itself. It sounds like a glitch or something else "trace" of an implementation of HT ... don't know how to say in English

so, don't be so happy ... normally your p4b533-v will never support HT (exept if Asus continues this production, but with B stepping chipset).

from what I understand, ALL P4 chips have HT built-in, it's just not in its final form (so it wouldn't be as fast as "real" HT chips) & it's not enabled...
