My computer won't turn on

this morning when i woke up i noticed my pc was off... it was running the night before and i left it on (like i always do) So anyway, it wouldn't turn back on this morning. There was a red led on the motherboard lit (not sure if that matters) but nothing would happen when i hit the power button. So i tried unplugging stuff, played around, and eventually just swapped out the psu with another brand new one i had lying around (the new one was for another pc) So after swapping them out i hit the button and again nothing happened. The psu's light on the back is lit orange for standby mode so im pretty sure it's not the psu. (plus it worked before when i tried it)

So now im stuck... I'm guessing it's a motherboard issue? I tried taking out the ram and switching the slots and stuff, and i also only plugged in one harddrive to the psu and pretty much nothing else (besides the motherboard of course) to see if it would at least start but got nothing.

this is getting irritating though for it's my main pc and the motherboard is only a year old. I don't want to buy another one too to find out it's not the problem. I'm hoping I'm maybe missing something dumb but it's just so weird how it completely shut off on me and won't start back up. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT : Here's some more information. I have an Abit KN8 Ultra motherboard. There are two leds, led1 and led2 on the motherboard. led1 is lit red while the other shows nothing

Instead of trying with one hard drive, haven't you try to power it on with only CPU and RAM?

Yeah I've tried just about everything now. Even tried using a paper clip to touch the two prongs where the power button connects in case it was the button. Tried taking out the cmos battery too... not sure what else i can try. I'm assuming it's the motherboard that's causing the problem.

Did you clear the CMOS via the jumper or just remove the battery?

Try clearing it using the procedure in the MB manual (pg.16 sect, 2.8).

BTW... Welcome to the Forums!!

Last resort - you might try taking the mobo out of the case and connect it with a PSU - only hooked up with monitor and VGA card, nothing else.

I tried removing the battery and also i tried using the jumper to reset everything... Maybe I'll give your idea a shot (zeeon) for i'll probably have to remove it anyway if i get a new one.

Sounds like a dead motherboard. Same thing I just dealt with. I was able to test all my components in my wife's pc after going minimal on my own.
