My Creative ZEN 40GB dilemma

hey ppl

the dilema is the following. Since my best friend got for his birthday 2 Creative ZENs 40GB mp3 players now he wants to sell one of them. I am willing to buy it since I kinda like those things and they are pretty good. He offers me a great price of 250 EUR. However, I am not quite sure whether I shall get one of these since some one told me they are not plug and play and they take ages to get uploaded throuth USB 1.1 (the one I have).

Do they really need the special Creative software? Even under XP?

They are not seen as removable storage. There is other software out there for the Zen hardware.

Creative Zen is the older generation. The newer one is Zen Xtra, and most recent is the Zen Micro
They have huge storage, yet cannot be used as removable storage.

I'd think 250 EUR is still expensive for it.
I personally perfer the new Zen Micro cause at least it allows you to slice a portion of space to removable storage. For putting music though you still need their program because the way the media is organised in the player.

The up-coming Zen Micro Photo allows you to view photos as well. Availability in Summer

I have a creative Zen Touch 40 GB (creatives newest model) that I got for $280 US new. I use Notmad exploere to put music on my device and it works really well, much better than the creative software. http://www.redchairsoftware.com/notmad/
