For Sociology I am writing a paper and we have to do a survey and use some of the information in the paper itself. For those who have a couple of minutes to spare, if you could possibly answer the following questions - I would greatly appreciate it.

1) Do you support the death penalty? Yes/No
2) When should the death penalty be used?
3) Since when does it make it right for the government to execute someone?
4) Do you belive that the eye-for-an-eye theories should be used? In this case life-for-a-life.
5) On a scale of 1-10, how inhumane do you consider death by leathal injection to be?
6) What about cases in which the person was proved guilty beyond reasonable doubt; yet lacked any "decent" evidence such as DNA, video, or credible witnesses?
7) How would you like to be strapped down onto a gurney?
8) What do you think is the next best alternative?
9) For those who support the death penatly; why do you support it?
10) For those who do not support the death penalty; why don't you support it?
11) Do you believe mentally retarded murderers should be executed? Explain why or why not.

Choose only #9 or #10; and I appreciate your responses.

well, i'm really busy here in off-topic, but

1-yes
2-to get rid of scum of society, prison is too expensive and not punative enough
3-i don't understand the question. the death penalty is allowed by the US Constitution
4-yes
5-one, it isn't inhumane at all. but i think hanging or firing squad is better than lethal injection
6-i think physical evidence should be required for death sentances, witnesses are sometimes unreliable
7-what? i didn't kill anybody, what kind of question is that?
8-corporeal punishment, like the caning they use in Singapore
9-justice/vengence, ok mostly to get the scum out of our society
10- N/A
11-yes, it doesn't change what they did/excuse them from justice

have a nice day!

1) Do you support the death penalty? Yes/No
No.

2) When should the death penalty be used?
Never.

3) Since when does it make it right for the government to execute someone?
It isn't.

4) Do you belive that the eye-for-an-eye theories should be used? In this case life-for-a-life.
Apparently not, see above answers.

5) On a scale of 1-10, how inhumane do you consider death by leathal injection to be?

hu·mane Pronunciation Key (hy-mn)
adj.

1. Characterized by kindness, mercy, or compassion: a humane judge.

so, um, 1 being lowest, and 10 being highest.... 1

6) What about cases in which the person was proved guilty beyond reasonable doubt; yet lacked any "decent" evidence such as DNA, video, or credible witnesses?
Same as before.

7) How would you like to be strapped down onto a gurney?
I wouldn't

8) What do you think is the next best alternative?
Imprisonment seems to work reasonably well

9) For those who support the death penatly; why do you support it?
I don't

10) For those who do not support the death penalty; why don't you support it?
cause it's irreversible.

11) Do you believe mentally retarded murderers should be executed? Explain why or why not.
No, same as before.

Choose only #9 or #10; and I appreciate your responses.

Your poll is EXTREMELY one sided. Almost every question assumes the reader supports the death penalty. You might want to make it more balanced.

1) Do you support the death penalty? Yes but read 2
2) When should the death penalty be used? Under extreme circumstances but especially when doing so will prevent future innocent deaths
3) Since when does it make it right for the government to execute someone? Since when? Not sure what you're asking here
4) Do you belive that the eye-for-an-eye theories should be used? In this case life-for-a-life. Will depend on the circumstances.
5) On a scale of 1-10, how inhumane do you consider death by leathal injection to be? 3. How much less painful can it be? It's not 1 just because some people are scared of needles
6) What about cases in which the person was proved guilty beyond reasonable doubt; yet lacked any "decent" evidence such as DNA, video, or credible witnesses? I suppose that would mean they weren't proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
7) How would you like to be strapped down onto a gurney? No thanks
8) What do you think is the next best alternative?Putting them to sleep with gas first and then doing the lethal injection
9) For those who support the death penatly; why do you support it?Refer to 2. Because there are extreme circumstances that call for it
10) For those who do not support the death penalty; why don't you support it?
11) Do you believe mentally retarded murderers should be executed? Explain why or why not. Depends on the circumstances again. For each case, ask will doing so prevent future deaths? If true, then yes.

Choose only #9 or #10; and I appreciate your responses.

1) Do you support the death penalty?

Yes

2) When should the death penalty be used?

Current applications seem OK to me.

3) Since when does it make it right for the government to execute someone?

You're assuming that at some point they didn't.

4) Do you belive that the eye-for-an-eye theories should be used? In this case life-for-a-life.

Yes

5) On a scale of 1-10, how inhumane do you consider death by leathal injection to be?

Which end is humane? That's the extreme I'd be at. Seems about as easy as it gets.

6) What about cases in which the person was proved guilty beyond reasonable doubt; yet lacked any "decent" evidence such as DNA, video, or credible witnesses?

How could you be proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt without any of those things? Short of confession, I don't think that situation is possible.

7) How would you like to be strapped down onto a gurney?

I wouldn't. Hence the reason I'm not STUPID enough to do things which would get me the death penalty. At that point what they would like is meaningless. I'm sure they'd rather be on a tropical island surrounded by Playboy Playmates, but wouldn't we all?

8) What do you think is the next best alternative?

To lethal injection? Gas chamber I guess.

9) For those who support the death penatly; why do you support it?

It's called self defense.

10) For those who do not support the death penalty; why don't you support it?

Because I love small furry animals, hugging trees, and serial killers.

11) Do you believe mentally retarded murderers should be executed? Explain why or why not.

It would depend on the situation. If someone beat somebody to death with a toilet plunger, then yes. If they picked up a gun somewhere & killed them with a single shot... I dunno.

BTW, I agree with yamahaXS, your questionnaire sucks. Asking questions like #3 & you'll get skewed results.

The survey is definitely tilted toward a certain persuasion.

1) No
2) Never
3) The government doesn't have that right
4) No
5) Any death penalty administration is inhumane
6) Doesn't matter
7) No
8) None if you mean death
9) N/A
10) Government cannot take away an individual's life, even a convicted murderer. But the very worst offenders should spend their remaining lives in solitary confinement. I'd say that's worse than the death penalty because everybody dies eventually.
11) Nobody should be executed

1) Do you support the death penalty? Yes/No

yes

2) When should the death penalty be used?

when i deem it necessary.

3) Since when does it make it right for the government to execute someone?

since the individual gave up their right to live.

4) Do you belive that the eye-for-an-eye theories should be used? In this case life-for-a-life.

not necessarily, i think the victim and their family should choose the punishment.

5) On a scale of 1-10, how inhumane do you consider death by leathal injection to be?

2, but who cares?

6) What about cases in which the person was proved guilty beyond reasonable doubt; yet lacked any "decent" evidence such as DNA, video, or credible witnesses?

the inhumaness of it is not dependant on the guilt. that is a separate issue.

7) How would you like to be strapped down onto a gurney?

i wouldn't?

8) What do you think is the next best alternative?

to #7 or #5? sex, for 7 and firing squad for 5.

9) For those who support the death penatly; why do you support it?

because people who kill others for sport or whatever, should not live.

11) Do you believe mentally retarded murderers should be executed? Explain why or why not.

yes, because that's just who they are. it is really sad that they are that way, but life sucks like that.

1) Yes
2) Serial Killers, Repeat offenders that show no hope of rehabilition. Violent Killers, Drug lords
3) when the people knowing show disregard for other lives and the laws
4) in premeditated murders of heinous nature yes
5) 1 since there is little to no pain other than the needle prick i find it very humane. I'd like to see the gas chamber and the chair brought back, public hangings and firing squads would also be a good deterant to crime
6) I think there needs to be more evidence than a questionable witness, prints and dna are always good
7) kinda freaky aren't you? for death sentences it is needed so that the person doesn't try to struggle when getting ready for the injection
8) Capital punishment, canning, whippings, scarring
9) I don't see where it is necessary to sustain someone's life when they have shown total disrespect for anothers life as well as for society without remorse
10) For those who do not support the death penalty; why don't you support it?
11) yes retarded or not they should be held accountable for what they have done. don't give them a scapegoat.

For "credible data" you can't have questions like: "Would you like to strapped to a gurney?" and "What in the hell givces them that right?!"

You're questions are obviosuly biased.

1. yes
2. in cases of murder, rape, child molestation, people who don't use turn signals, and religious zealots,
3. since when hasn't it.
4. um ..... no biblical references should make it into our court system
5. 1
6. I'm wondering how they'd be convicted then.
7. by the testicles, I'm into S&M
8. shipping them off the a prison colony where I ain't gotta pay for their upkeep.
9. It's alot harder to escape from death than prison. plus death is cheaper, dead inmates eat less.
10. got me, ask one of them
11. yep, same thing goes for psychos.

1) Do you support the death penalty? Yes/No

Yes.

2) When should the death penalty be used?

Well duh, when it's the right thing to do

3) Since when does it make it right for the government to execute someone?

I don't get the question

4) Do you belive that the eye-for-an-eye theories should be used? In this case life-for-a-life.

Sometimes maybe, but I don't think it should be a standard procedure or anything... I think the victim / family should get to choose the punishment.

5) On a scale of 1-10, how inhumane do you consider death by leathal injection to be?

If 10 is as inhumane as it gets, I'd say 1.

6) What about cases in which the person was proved guilty beyond reasonable doubt; yet lacked any "decent" evidence such as DNA, video, or credible witnesses?

How's that possible?

7) How would you like to be strapped down onto a gurney?

I wouldn't.

8) What do you think is the next best alternative?

To what? Lethal injection? Propably gas chamber.

9) For those who support the death penatly; why do you support it?

Because there's many people in this world who don't deserve to live.

11) Do you believe mentally retarded murderers should be executed? Explain why or why not.

If they understand the concept of murder, yes. If by "mentally retarded" you mean they don't understand what they did and don't understand what murder & death even means, no, but they should be locked up for good.

1) Do you support the death penalty?
No
2) When should the death penalty be used?
See above
3) Since when does it make it right for the government to execute someone?
There is a long history of it. And the citizen does have a responsiblity to play by the society's rules. Then again I also think that taking a person's life is wrong. Each persons's mind is a unique universe and a unique way of seeing things. When that is destroyed - its bad
4) Do you belive that the eye-for-an-eye theories should be used? In this case life-for-a-life.
"An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind"
5) On a scale of 1-10, how inhumane do you consider death by leathal injection to be?
Tough one. It is low on the brutality score. However to know that at 2:00 on such and such date you will be murdered, and then to be stuffed for it, i.e last meal/requests, seems a little like a cat playing with a mouse
6) What about cases in which the person was proved guilty beyond reasonable doubt; yet lacked any "decent" evidence such as DNA, video, or credible witnesses?
They usually prove that the people were wrongly convicted and have wrongly been on death row for 15 years
7) How would you like to be strapped down onto a gurney?
depends on who is doing it
8) What do you think is the next best alternative?
Life imprisonment. Prevention.
10) For those who do not support the death penalty; why don't you support it?
I feel any premeditated killing cheapens the quality and value of human life. It also has been proven to be affected by a racial bias. It is an irreversible punishment, casting judgement when we cannot always be entirely sure of the facts.
11) Do you believe mentally retarded murderers should be executed? Explain why or why not.
Sure. we should execute them exclusively!
Choose only #9 or #10; and I appreciate your responses.

1) Do you support the death penalty? Yes/No

Yes.

2) When should the death penalty be used?

For the most heinous of crimes. Heinous being defined by society and applied by the jury. Pretty much how it works now.

3) Since when does it make it right for the government to execute someone?

Since society as a whole tells the government it's OK to execute someone. Remember we elect those that make the laws.

4) Do you belive that the eye-for-an-eye theories should be used? In this case life-for-a-life.

For the most part yes.

5) On a scale of 1-10, how inhumane do you consider death by leathal injection to be?

If 10 is the most inhumane, then I would say it's a 2.

6) What about cases in which the person was proved guilty beyond reasonable doubt; yet lacked any "decent" evidence such as DNA, video, or credible witnesses?

Like other's have said, how is this going to happen. Heck prosecution has a hard enough time convicting with DNA (OJ flashback anyone?)

7) How would you like to be strapped down onto a gurney?

I would like to be strapped down kicking and screaming.

8) What do you think is the next best alternative?

Again, to what? I don't think there is a good alternative to the death penalty. As for alternative to lethal injection, I don't really care as long as it gets the job done.

9) For those who support the death penatly; why do you support it?

Because some crimes are so monstrous, I believe the people who commit them give up their rights as human beings and need to be eliminated from society. I don't care if the death penalty isn't a detterent to more crime, I feel that in some cases it's a fitting punishment.

11) Do you believe mentally retarded murderers should be executed? Explain why or why not.

It's kind of difficult to sum up everything here, but if they had knowledge of what they did was wrong then they should not be automatically excluded from the death penalty. If they had no concept of right/wrong, then they should not be executed.

I'm answering your questions, but I'm going to have to agree with others here that these are blatantly biased and at the very least should be reworded.

Poor question. Does anyone like to be restrained against their will? Under just about any form of capital punishment restraint must be used.
8) Best alternative to what? Strapping or capital punishment? Poor question.
5) Is 1 or 10 high or low? Poor question.
6) Poor question. The conditions you set tend to contradict each other. "Decent" is open to intepretation and is much too vauge to give meaningful survey results.
3. "<U>Since</U> when...?" Poorly phrased question. Reeks of bias.

Poorly conceived questions for this survey.

1) Yes
2) When the person shows no remorse, doesn't understand WHY what they did is wrong, etc. Or if I ever do something wrong, and get convicted for 30 or more days... I'd rather be put to death than put up with jail for an extended period of time.
3) As soon as a person takes another person's life (other than executioners), they lose all rights etc. Also the goverment (read: the people) should not have to pay for people to live free for the rest of their lives, not ever having to work for their food, etc.
4) In this case, yes, in a lot of cases, Yes....Rapists should be violated, murderers murdered (if they show no remorse etc), thieves thieved, etc. (Oh, and David McOwen should have been forced to crunch a DC project for the school district he worked for )
5) 1 being most humane... 2, as someone mentioned, there is the fear of needles
6) They aren't proved guilty without reasonable doubt.
7) Depends on who's doin the strappin and how big of whip she has
8) Being strapped to a bed (err, but seriously.... if it were me, lethal injection would be fine... if you are trying to discourage crime, public execution such as firing squad, etc would be a better deterrent)
9) It's a lot more reasonable for the goverment, then paying for 60 years of someone being in jail. and personally I would MUCH rather be put to death than spend an extended period of time in jail.
11) What murderer is not either A. mentally retarded or B. mentally messed up in some other manner?

I think our whole judicial system should be revamped...
When someone can extort money from a company and go to jail for 30 years, but another person can rape a kid and go to jail for like 6 years.... the judicial system is just plain FSCKED!
Also, cases such as Kevin Mitnick, where he was in jail for nearly five years without a trial... or our very own David McOwen, who ran a completely harmless program on computers at a school where he was an administrator, and then the georgia legal system tried to charge him an exorberant amount of fines, and put him in jail etc. the government REALLY needs to fix these problems.

1) Do you support the death penalty? Yes/No
no not really.

2) When should the death penalty be used?

when you run out of prison space. or when i am given unlimited power as dictator of america as my judgement is perfect.

3) Since when does it make it right for the government to execute someone?

it doesn't work as a deterent, therefore its retribution. i suppose a governement has whatever rights are given to it though. i suppose the only exception i would make would be treason. a direct threat to the country is basically an act of war. war isn't really the same thing as a death penalty since they are basically soldiers.

4) Do you belive that the eye-for-an-eye theories should be used? In this case

no, because it isn't a deterent retribution isn't a quality that should be promoted.

5) On a scale of 1-10, how inhumane do you consider death by leathal injection to be?

doesn't seem all that imhumane, its how we put kitties down. 2 if 1 is lowest i guess. i guess.

6) What about cases in which the person was proved guilty beyond reasonable doubt; yet lacked any "decent" evidence such as DNA, video, or credible witnesses?

err me no for death penalty. all systems are faliable. cept for me.

7) How would you like to be strapped down onto a gurney?

only if lucy lawless straps me in and then "punishes" me.

8) What do you think is the next best alternative?

life in prison castration?(not chemical)

10) For those who do not support the death penalty; why don't you support it?

its expensive, costs more then life imprisonment. meaning your paying out of your ass for useless retribution. there is no deterent effect. it isn't something a civilized society should be doing. plus, you can't take it back when u screw up

11) Do you believe mentally retarded murderers should be executed? Explain why or why not.

no, i feel sorry for a person that is that handicapped. no point anyways. we should be bigger people then that

1) Yes.
2) If the person is proven guilty of a crime like murder, torture, rape, and in case of murder if there aren't special circumstances.
3) Rephrase the question please.
4) Depends on the case.
5) On a scale of 1-10, how inhumane do you consider murder/torture/rape to be?
6) Only if there is physical evidence, a jury can be bribed or fooled into believing lying witnesses. Or if the person admits to doing it.
7) No clue what a gurney is, but from the reactions from the rest here I'd say no.
8) Throw them in front of the angry mob. Or else life imprisonment, with no chance on a pardon.
9) To rid the earth of scum.
10) N/A
11) Why only the murderers among them?
