I have been lusting after this truck one friend was driving for over 6 months. Was supposed to be a cure for 130 rover i couldn't afford. Bought a mitsubishi 4x4 and still looking for some pickup to solve all my car needs. Actually found a decent L200 and when was just about to add it to my collection, he gave up and sold me my new crocodile. 447000 km 93 all original with just maintenance, living on rough island and still runs fine.

impressive!! very cool ride!
Thank you! i really like it. I will do condition assessment in next days and start with basic maintenance which was (obviously) very sparse in last years, but first driving only revealed one minor problem what made me really happy

Very impressive. It's a 1993? Body is in great shape, especially for something designed to drive in the rough.

93 yes, and i was seriously impressed how good the bodywork was, seeing ANYTHING else being available here. Here even aluminum or stainless rusts, and this old car still have original paint. Yes it was kept in a garage often, but when you wake up with water faucet in the kitchen wet and salty in the morning, you do not really think that garage would help. Bottom part was repainted and there are some rust holes here and there, but in general it looks really fine.

I actually thought that the most lovable thing about Japanese cars will be usage of metric screws (i worked mainly on US and UK cars before), but no, they really are built like none was told dealers make money on service.

I had a 1993 Isuzu Truck. Drove it for 20 years and did nothing but regular maintenance plus one headlight switch and one alternator.

I beat the hell out of it too.

Congrats!

Awesome ride! These trucks are damn near mechanically indestructible. Keep the rust at bay and it might outlive you. My favorite is Cosmoline RP-342 for rust-proofing.

Thank you for the tip Mark. I have been using different brand but generally when i restore cars, i replace everything i could with stainless, so that should help a lot too. Especially here.

Falling in love with it more and more...

Today made a net cover over the bed and seats cover . I know it looks weird, but i want it to be "authentic" to the age and is my daily now, so has to be practical first for my use cases ... Going for this redneck / texas ranger utility look and feel :-D

Since I'm in the US and used to what we got in the states I keep getting thrown off.
See the front end and keep expecting it to end with an Amigo's or Rodeo's ass out back.

I think i am starting to like the car even more.
It has a huge fuel filter, obviously made to handle low quality fuel, oil-filter and airfilter. All accessible and replaceable from the bonnet.
From bottom it looks surprisingly in good condition too.

I have a big engine shake when in idle, probably engine mounts, as it is gone when pulling, but they look good visually. Not sure where it is yet.

You know the car is build to mil spec or beyond when this is a fuel filter.
Which apparently was never changed as the one in the car has manufacturing 3 months prior the car.

I am really more and more in love with the car. So much space to work on, so pure, simple and in good condition given the age and mileage. Even rescued a first tourist.

Removed the spare wheel crane (it has a chain crane to life tire from ground lol), replaced worth of half a kilo of screws for stainless, air filter, interior and many more things.

After years working on land rovers i really wonder why those cars are so under appreciated.

I actually didn't knew even before. I just liked that it is so low, compared to hilux while at the same time same capable and optically very similar. Also that it had front bench which hiluxes doesnt have (at least those available here).
What google says seems to be that they are as good, if not better. Engine is of course slow compared to turbo hilux, but rest? I see only bonuses.

New alternator/vacuum pump and battery!
Now when i run out of fuel, i can put it in second gear and crank all the way home... Would probably be even faster than with the engine.
