okay, I did the -u -s. the system hangs at:

System model name: OEM
"and then a big white cursor" (nothing happening)

Does everyone else have MAC OS version 9B18?

once you do have a good working system (or something that does not crash), make sure you backup /system/library/extensions , osx being microkernel based (sort of), the extensions can be changed easily, if you install something that breaks stuff you can boot in single user mode (-s) and replace the extension (kext) that broke it.

anyone on this forum know how to fix ALL the permissions on the kalyway 10.5.1 distro. Insanelymac is down. I also did the suggested fix for the hackintosh entry in about the mac, but did not work. it did get rid of some other permission error, so not a total loss.

Any guesses. This is using the kalyway 10.5.1 distro and kaly's restore to virgin state software.

SUID errors are perfectly normal - that's supposed to happen.

usr ones are just files which didn't have correct permissions , the command should have fixed that, kaly with vanilla kernel is pretty close to retail IMO (except some eye candy), the suid errors should not really effect anything

hehehe I made a Hackintosh:

Using Bad Axe Motherboard:

Q6600 @ 3.6Ghz (on air could do more)
8GB Memory
8800GTS
2x750GB HD's

It's rock stable too. Got all my music software on there without a problem.

Heck you cannot even buy a Mac Pro running at 3.6Ghz from Apple!

Oooh and it is on a DVI-DL KVM switch that allows me to switch between my Mac and PC on a Dell 30" LCD with the click of a button (or remote).

Oh yeah and it has a firewire Presonus Firepod on the Mac and Firebox on the PC that connected to a mixer all of which fits under a custom made hutch with a 2U rack on each side. And then to the 6" KRK monitors. So I can have sound coming from both computers at the same time.

Oh that is right and then a M-audio 88es 88 key midi controller connected to both the Mac and PC.

I'll have to post a pic of this later as you can tell I'm very impressed with myself

It's all connected together via Gigabit ethernet and will connect to a NAS when I get around to putting it together.

(This project has seriously taken me like three months and God knows how much money.)

.. God I do not even want to think about how much all this cost.

Hackintosh:

Case: $75
PSU: $75
HDDS: $400
Q6600: $300
Tsiniq: $50
Ram: $250
Video: $275
Motherboard: $150

So $1800 x 2 (similar specs for pc) = $3600

Firewire cards + mixer + power conditioner: $800

Switch and monitor: ~1500

Keyboard: $200

Custom made hutch + speakers = $500

So yeah this whole thing is probably worth about $6500. (I had to take out a student loan to finance this).

Oh yeah I spent close to $1000 on music software so make that $7500.

Expensive but not that bad seeing as how I pretty much have a pretty high end music studio in my room.

I'm extremely intrigued by your build and would love to see a photo.

I am very tempted to set up a little studio myself. I currently have a MacBook, Tascam US-122, KRK RP5s (how are the 6"s?), a Yamaha stage piano and a whole bunch of guitars and a bass. I'm enjoying the results but am SO tempted by a a hackintosh!!

I'm only using Logic 8 Pro at the moment, purely for music creation. Thinking about having a dabble with Ableton as I'm keen on making some mixes. What software are you using and what issues have you encountered, if any?

anyone got any suggestions on a firewire card? I am still having issues getting the raid to work on the rosewill cards. there are different drivers listed on the website. I used the latest one which had 10.5 or higher listed. I wonder if I need to use the Tiger driver?

I picked up an adaptec firewire card off ebay for around 15 bucks on ebay, worked out of the box

i ripped out my old soundblaster audigy 2 which had a firewire 400 port on it. it worked perfectly. the firewire port, not the sound.

when i was searching the insanelymac forums, i think the consensus was anything with a ti chipset should be fine.

Need help...During my superduper clone process, it gets all the way to the end and tries to make the new raid set bootable. it fails with the error: Could not set OSX Leopard as the startup disk because it doesn't contain a valid Mac OS X System older.

I am ordering the parts for a Hackintosh soon. It is similar to the one describe on this forum. I want to use a different video card though and would appreciate your opinion and advice.

The card is: EVGA 512-P3-N801-AR GeForce 8800GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card.

Is the card compatible with Leopard? I thought it might be since it is the card specified on the PowerMac upgrade. If not would you recommend a similar one... in the same price range?

My wish list is at the site below:

Thanks,

Michael

PS: By the way. How is iTunes handled by this machine since you have to register iTunes at Apple? Does Apple see it as a Mac or PC or at all?

@kaido: I have a DFI Lanparty DK P35 T2RS with v8 EFI. I did a retail install. I found a supposed fix in regards to the IONetworking, and it got rid of it. But, when trying to do superduper, it says at the end: "could not set boot device property: 0xe00002c7"

I am at a loss for this. This is basically all I need to do to call my machine complete. Well, that and a 10.5.2 update.
